'Vampire Diaries' Twist: Elena's Love For Damon Is Still In 'Doubt'

'Delena' fans, prepare to bang your heads against the wall!

Remember when Elena (Nina Dobrev) finally told Damon (Ian Somerhalder) that she loved him on the Jan. 17 episode of The Vampire Diaries? It may have been over the phone — the kind of half-assed move one might expect from Joe Jonas, to be honest — but it was still beautiful and long overdue. That said, "Delena" fans still shouldn't get their hopes up too high, at least according to executive producer Julie Plec.

"This isn't necessarily the end-all, be-all now that that word ['love'] has been spoken," Julie tells Entertainment Weekly. "The doubt is still gonna be there. And it's gonna continue to eat at Damon for the next few episodes."

So, basically, Elena can say she loves Damon as many times as she wants — but it'll always be up for debate.

Will Damon & Elena Ever Get Their Happy Ending?

Am I the only one who feels like Damon and Elena are getting totally dumped on this season? Even though we've seen them reach several major milestones in their relationship, each one has been tainted, making them impossible to fully enjoy.

Fans went bananas when Damon and Elena had sex for the first time — and rightfully so, as it was crazy hot — but it took less than two minutes for us to question their motives with the introduction of the sire bond.

And now we can't even fully enjoy Elena's confession, as we're being told Elena might only think she loves Damon.

"Elena believes it so fundamentally that in that moment, it's enough for Damon to let himself believe too," Julie explains. "Just letting himself allow it to be real for one small moment is enough for Damon."

"A View to a Kill" — Stefan and Rebekah Get More Serious?

"No feelings. No attachment," Rebekah (Claire Holt) told Stefan (Paul Wesley) before they hit the sheets in The Vampire Diaries Season 4, Episode 11. Talk about the best laid plans...

In Season 4, Episode 12, "A View to a Kill," the mayor, aka Bonnie's (Kat Graham) dad, cancels the '80s Decade Dance, which promised to be the Fraggle Rock-iest of them all. Since Bex has a history of missing school dances, Stefan finds a way to recreate the magic, so she can still wear a Debbie Gibson-inspired ensemble.

Entertainment Tonight has the exclusive photo of Stefan and Rebekah holding hands in a neon-lit room filled with red balloons — 99 of them, we're sure.

Maybe Stefan has more affection for Bex than he cares to admit.

'Vampire Diaries' goes 'Into the Wild' -- EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK

The race for the cure leads the three teams to an island off the coast of Nova Scotia in the Feb. 7 episode of The Vampire Diaries, appropriately titled Into the Wild since, in our exclusive first look photos below, Shane (David Alpay) is seen offering Damon sunscreen and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is brandishing a machete. Is Professor Shadypants leading them into a trap? Click on the images for larger versions.

After Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Rebekah (Claire Holt) hooked up in last week's episode — no feelings, no attachments — having everyone on an island should be tons of fun. Per the synopsis, Rebekah and Elena (Nina Dobrev) "continue their bitter rivalry," while Stefan attempts to keep the peace. Good luck, sir. Spoiler alert: Bonnie (Kat Graham) must survive this week's episode — and Jeremy must succeed in killing Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic)? — because they're working together to decipher the message of the Hunter's mark. As for Caroline (Candice Accola) and Tyler (Joseph Morgan), they're back in Mystic Falls, where Tyler confronts Klaus (Joseph Morgan), and Caroline gets "caught up in the violence that follows." (Altogether now, NOOO.)
