A day before the inauguration of the new haveli, the pandit comes to visit the family, and tells them that the next day is the only auspicious day, for the next four months, and the havan should be performed at 10.30 a.m.   They all should make it a point to be present before the time.

Next day, Shamboo, Heeraman and Vishnoo go ahead to prepare for the ceremony.   At home, Sarju with his wife Radha and Ramdei and Laachi are busy, getting things ready, packing their clothes, to move them to the new house.

In the meantime, the two unscrupulous women, Laxmi and her daughter in law, are busy with the plotting how to disrupt their celebration, while showing externally, that they are all for the family.

When Ramdei, with her family has got ready in the courtyard, she finds Laachi missing, and then decides to go in to find why she has not come.    Laachi gives all types of lame excuses, then comes out with ther grievance, that the haveli belongs to Sarju and Radha, who showed disrespect to her husband and her and how she could expect any thing better, if she were to go to the new place.  She refuses to come.

Ramdei argues with her, and tells her that she has not interest in the family.  She says, that a snake is always a snake, however much milk you feed it.   Sarju tells her that he is prepared to ask her forgiveness, and she should come.  If she does not want to come, then he too will not go to the new house.    Laxmi and Phoolmani who had banked on good days for themselves in th new haveli, are shocked and disturbed, but do not show it to the others.   Then Radha starts  her cringing subservience to Laachi, and asks for forgiveness for bringing unhappiness in their family.   Laachi gets flash back of what the doctor said the previous day, but her mind is clogged with old ideas and finds it difficult to dislodge them.

In the haveli, the pandit is getting the havan ready, and they wonder why the rest of the family has not come.  It is getting late.

At home, Ramdei loses her temper and shouts at Laachi, but she is adamant and refuses to come, and so the time passes, and it is doubtful, if they will be in time for the havan in the haveli.

29/3/2011

The first half of the serial is taken up by the women folk of the house with Sarju and Kesoo with them.   Laachi refuses to come to the haveli, and Radha pleads with her to come.  Ramdei threatens her, and Laxmi needles her into accepting to come later, with her, but nothing works.

After half the serial is about to get over, Laachi agrees and they go to the haveli just in time for the havan, before the auspicious time empires.

Sarju explains to the father, Shamboo as to  why they were delayed, and the havan starts.  The other half of the serial, is devoted to the havan, and the entrance into the haveli.    The pandit starts with the father and mother leading the ceremony,    Then the pandit asks Radha and Sarju, but she tells him, that it is the right of Laachi, so the child is taken by Phoolmani and she sits for the pooja.  At the end, Sarju and Radha take part.and the ceremony concludes.

For entering the house, the pandit says it is to be done by Radha, but she insists it should be by Laachi, being the eldest daughter in law.  It is done according to her wish.

Laxmi and Phoolmani are disappointed that their plan has not worked.  Vishnoo still has hopes to take over the haveli, from the unsophisticated relatives of his father

30/3/2011

The serial starts with the pandit performing the ceremony of house warming.   Laachi and Radha perform the entrance ceremony, with stamping the impressions of their palms on the walls, with the red color.   Then, they go into the kitchen to perform the lighting of the fire.     Radha shows Laachi, how to operate the gas stove, with the aunt, Laxmi needling her from the rear end, as befits her nature.   Radha ignores her, but Laxmi's aim to to create a rift in Laachi's mind, and inflame her doubts and anger against Radha and Sarju.    Their ultimate aim is to take possession of the haveli, when all the members of Sarju's family turn against one another.    Whether it will just remain her dream, is for the future to tell.

The other modern change in their lives, is to eat at the dining table.   Vishnoo, and his mother and wife, seem to be at home with the chairs and table, and without any torturing they have adjusted to the new life.    Of course the actresses and actors are not as backward as the roles they have to portray, and it was the job of the director to notice this anomaly in the situation, which is trying to portray, but who is going to question them, when the public is expected to just watch them or switch the remotes off and go to sleep.

Then we are shown, the greed of the women, Laxmi and Phoolmani, as they decide which room to take as their own, but Radha orders the cradle to be placed in the room, which Phoolmani has chosen, and  she tells them that this room is given to Laachi and Kesoo.    She has made other arrangements for Phoolmani and her mother in law.

The evil designs of the family of Laxmi are shown vividly, and Kesoo has been influenced, and he loses his temper on Sarju, and the latter is flabbergasted, as to why his brother is angry with him.

31/3/2011

Sarju's new haveli has new problems from the inmates.   The way of thinking of the individuals, is the main cause of the dissension.    Kesoo, is drowning himself in self pity, but if he had any intelligence, he would have found from the doctor a way out of his problem.   Since is backward thinking permits him to trust the ignorant ones surrounding him, and he can not trust those who are his own, and have shown in the past, that they can be trusted, he despises them.  Who can help him, and how can he and his wife save themselves?

Heeraman, though he is honest, and straightforward, his wife and family are ignoble and worthless, only fit to scheme and wrench from others what belongs to them.  The writers of Star Plus, must have known people like this to base their characterizations on humans of such low intellectual levels.   They are showing them to us, so that we can avoid such people in our lives.

Vishnoo, to draw Kesoo to himself, takes him to a tavern and gets him drunk, and when they come tottering to the haveli, Sarju confronts them, and rather than listen to him, Kesoo blames him, and says, that he is more angry at his own personal fate.

In the village, a tramp of a woman, whom Vishnoo used to befriend,  has come, and a friend of his comes over to inform him, and Vishnoo goes to meet her, but she sends him away.   Then the friends goes to meet her and tell her that Vishnoo is the Master of the Haveli, and she regrets her move.

Shamboo is getting ready to go to the market, and takes money from his wife, but he wants more, and Laxmi is there to tighten the screws of Ramdei, and instigates her, saying the keys are with Radha, and she is at pooja, and will not come now.   Shamboo decides to wait, and Laxmi feels her game has been let down.   Radha comes and gives her father in law, the money and he goes to the market.

There is nothing spectacular in today's episode, but the same old venom, being pumped by the scheming females, a specimen of the Village society, or for that matter a national heritage, from where all our ills flow, like black money, corrupt politicians, corrupt police and babus, and the downtrodden masses, not sure of the way to come out of this tangled web of deceit.   Perhaps these wise men of Star Plus, could show us some hope and light at the end of the tunnel, rather than drub us day in and day out with all these negative images.   Does any one think, they will be allowed by the powers over them?   They are afraid of losing their profits, from the imbeciles.

1/4/2011

Kanayya, Vishnoo's friend,  is talking to Rani, the village vamp.   He tells her that Vishnoo has become rich and is the owner of a haveli, the biggest house in the village.   The woman tells him to bring Vishnoo back to her.  When Kanayya brings him, she tries to pocket him with her charms, and he offers her a hundred rupee note, which she returns to him, saying that such a great man like him, should give more.  But more than money, she cherishes his love for her.  Vishnoo gets an inflated ego.

At home, Phoolmani is busy worming her way into Laachi.  She tells her that she is doing too much work but Laachi is shown not to understand her motives, as if she is having the lowest     I.Q. in the village.   When Radha is arranging the curtains, Phoolmani  comes ingratiating to her, and tells her that she would do well to keep some servants, befitting her status in the haveli.  Radha tells   her that whether in the old house or in the new, she is the same. and they together can do the work.  Three of them are more than enough.   Phoolmani feels let down.   Radha tells Phoolmani that in order to reduce work load, they have bought a washing machine, and when she tells Radha that they can also wash the vessels in it, Radha laughs at Phoolmani's ignorance and tries to shed some light of knowledge in her.   Radha has selective intelligence, as she is incapable of knowing who are plotting her downfall, and ignores all warning signs.   It is a pity, that being in the city, going through all the tribulations there, being trained as Sonya has not retained  a grain of wisdom in her, instead, she has quickly settled into her old mold, to be a dumb daughter in law.   Trusting these cousins who have shown their color to them in the past, but she ignores all this, by brushing these hints under the carpet.   Or is this for the benefit of the viewers in the villages, to point out the pitfalls, of blindly trusting people around them?  It does not give any clue to people like Radha what they should do or not do.

Phoolmani finds Laachi scrubbing the vessels in the kitchen, and tells her that Radha has thoughtfully bought  a machine to wash the vessels, even though she knows it was Sarju's idea.   Laachi says, that she knows that they have a washing machine for clothes, but she did not hear anything about vessels.   Phoolmani shows surprise that she has not told Laachi, and that incites the suspicion in Laachi, who is portrayed as an ignorant villager incapable of thinking for herself, and falling a prey to scheming women, who are the only ones who think and act for their self interest.   Even though they do not have formal education, they are well schooled in the art of deceit.   Again their victims are those villagers who because of their lack of education or forethought, have been trapped in their own ignorance, and feel pride in their situation, which they say, is their destiny.

Laxmi also intent to sow seeds of discontent, goes to give Kesoo lime juice, and wakes him up from his sleep, as it is late in the day.  She fans ill feeling towards Sarju, and Laachi's husband shows that he is a fitting match to his ignorant wife, as he is shown to be swallowing Laxmi's story without hesitation, and trusts an outsider, rather than his own flesh and blood, and one wonders if this too is a normal pattern or contrived one, for the benefit of those who watch this serial.    When Sarju comes to ask for forgiveness, Laxmi sends him away, and asks him to come again later so that she can work on her nephew's mind for a little while longer.

Later on, Kesoo welling  with self pity, loses temper on Sarju as anticipated by his aunt Laxmi, and that too in front of his suspicious  mother, as she wonders who has sown enmity between the two of them.  Even though she has been suspecting her sister in law and her family right from the beginning, and never wanted them to be a part, she does not lift a finger to find out what they are up to, when all the time, under her very nose, they are digging pits for Ramdei's family.    Shamboo and Heeraman live in their own paradise, and even Heeraman, does not bother about the activities of his wife, son and his daughter in law.    A surprising set of people, who land in the lap of luxury, by accident, especially, since Sarju got his money as a result of his imprisonment, and if he was honest and had told his family the true nature of his wealth, many of their problems would have never come to their family.     Is honesty to oneself, and to one's own, a part of the message of this serial?   If so, it has not been shown so far.
