I will answer reffering to  The Vampire diaries

Its like a vampire bite a human = he dies if the wound is fatal.
vampire just takes some blood = only a wound will appear on the person.

the human feeds of vampire blood and dies within 24 hours = he /she wud b converted to vampire

now u will b confused how can a human drink a vampire blood .
The answer is tht the vampire have to either compel the human (in TVD vampires have a power to compel humans) or else the human willingly takes vampire blood ..like during love bite etc etc .
