MUMFORDGUNJ MINUTE:
MAIDEN MASTERNI'S MULTIPLICATION MANTRA IN MUMFORDGUNJ
The youngest daughter of Shamu and Nainaji is tutoring the tykes in the
neighborhood with her her own version of "Multiplication" mantra. So different from Bobby Darin's lyrics! Dadi
is peacefully enjoying the new kind of mantra and supervising the tutoring in
progress while Naina is hiding in the kitchen cooking her husband's favorite
dishes.
TEMPER TANTRUM AND TIRADE
Like her big brother Krishna, the sights and sounds of education are traumatizing to Komal. She storms into the living room tirading and taking a page out of her mother's book of etiquette and blasts the kids and tutor for the "noise" in the house. She shows her ignorance and scolds the children to keep their mouths zipped and use their minds do the learning in silence about "tables" and chairs and spare her a migraineπ². For someone who's complaining of a headache why is she screaming her head off in a high pitch. It's not migraines she should be concerned. Looks like monitoring those bundles of bank notes in her bedroom has raised her blood pressure. This confirms the Takurs are tormented by education, baashans and playing security guard to all those bucks under the unsecured Sax roof.
TUTORING BANNED BY BLUSTERING BAHU
Komal won't tolerate any notanki (that's her term for
tutoring) or turning the Green House into a circus tent. She issues her orders
that there will be no further education in the Green House, the tutoring has
been shut down. The children are alarmed by Komal's behavior. The price they pay to get some extra help or
learn a thing or two. Either Komal is
going through PMS at the moment or has difficulty regulating her moods swings. She speaks in a child like tone to Adarsh
one minute, tirades at Krishna and her sasural the next, is humble and
understanding one minute and spits venom. Or is it a personality problem?
LACK OF EDUCATION EXPOSED
The tutor decides to take the tirading Takur to task. "You've never been educated. Ek education ki ahmiyat ke barey mei tum kya janoge Komal bhabhi?" she quotes her version of the "ek chutki sindoor" dialogue. I guess talking about chutki sindoor will only bring back painful memories she'd rather forget. She tells Komal to keep her opinions to herself. That's waving a red flag in front of a raging bull.
BAHU IN BLUE GOES BESERK
The already irritable Mrs. Moneybags Saxsena loses her cool in the living room when reminded of her lack of and understanding of the value of education. She goes beserk, flinging the books and bags of the boys off the table in a fit of fury and threatens to throw them out. Dadi asks her if she's gone bonkers. This doesn't snap her out of her rage just yet. What's with the Takur's and their volatile uncontrollable tempers! Guess the reminder that she has no education is enough to send her off the deep end every time, kicking her in the gut and stoking her inferiority complex. The Saxes for all their education are emotional and mental abusers who administer it in subtle, soft tones.
TAKUR TEMPER TAKES ITS TOLL
Komal grabs a boy by the arm and is ready to drag him out when
the tutor intervenes telling the out of control Adarshbo to set him free.
Komal, blinded by rage shoves the tutor aside, she ends up with a bleeding cut
on her forehead. This seems to have
snapped Komal out of her rage, she pauses for a moment before turning tail and
returning to her room. Must have been the realization that she may have to
explain her action to Mr. Moneybags at the end of the day. She only responds to Adarsh's version of discipline.π€
TAKUR TRIBUNE:
KESAR'S MAMA'S SURPRISE VISIT
Kesamma arrives at Niwas. She is totally in awe of the haveli and already dreaming of a life of luxury within the walls of the Niwas. She looks more like Kesar's older sister than mother. Couldn't see the maa-beti connection here at all. Was she happy to see her daughter or did it sound like the ranting about the happenings at the village square? She manages to holler loud enough to get the attention of the Mr. & Mrs. Sajjan Singh.
KN'S SASUMA A HOUSE GUEST AT NIWAS
KN ain't a happy camper seeing his sasuma at the
haveliπ. That should feel like punishment to himπ. She manages to put a smile on
Ganti Dadi's face esp. when she reminds an unwelcoming KN that he looks much
stronger now than during the wedding. Just the idea of seeing a KN with that
head and a lanky body''''scary! SS
plays perfect host and tells her she's welcome to stay as long as she wants and
take care of Kesar. The old geyzer never does anything in life without a motive.π
KESAR'S INSURANCE IN PLACE
Seems SS doesn't trust Takurain or KN when it comes to Kesar's well being long enough to deliver his precious potha or pothi on time. By getting rid of his babies KN has indirectly been sabotaging SS dreams and plans for his family. Kesar's mother is his insurance policy to make sure the goose that is about to lay the family's golden egg is kept safe in the Niwas for the duration of her pregnancy.
KESAR'S MOM COMES BEARING GIFTS
Kesamma falls at SS's feet making him shuffle his feet in fear. Was he concerned she may grab his dhoti?π GD is alarmed every time Kesamma begins her fake Naina routine of GJBπ²π. Kesamma has come bearing gifts that no one seems to want to touch themπ€. SS tells Takurain to take it in, who calls on Piasiya to do the deed, who in turn orders Rakeswa to take it in all the way to the kitchen. Huma I know you feel for Rakeswa's flight!. What was in that bag that no one wanted to touch? Uh-oh! π²
TAKUR'S POOCH-TACH
Takurain is disgusted when Kesamma hugs herπ‘. The queen of the house who sweet talks and cordially invites her guests is taking a page out of GD's book today and playing mum. SS's plays cordial host as well and makes his inquiries. He learns more than he wants to. Kesar's dad fled after he went broke. It appears KN is disgusted to hear his sasurji's financial status is worse off than the Saxes! He looks like he wants to be anywhere but there. The arrival of his sasuma may motivate him to get back to work.π
PRATS GETS AN UNEXPECTED EVALUATION
In walks Prats and Kesamma gives her evaluation of Krishnabo. With a few insults and pointing out Prats's lack of decorum as a Takur bahu she manages to impress Takurain. Wait till Krishna shows up and gives Kesamma his brand of pushbacks for picking on his Prats babu. GD doesn't say a word, but looks on with the expression "the gall of you to insult my Pratigya" while Kesar helplessly looks on. Why doesn't she tell her mother to can it instead of standing there like she's got a ladoo in her mouth?
TAKURAIN'S CHANGES STRATEGY
Takurain initally isn't happy with SS's decision to let Kesar's mother practically move into the Niwas. But she turns around and welcomes Kesamma after she hears her take on Prats. Seems like Sumitra and Kesamma are going to be playing a game of Takurain vs. Takurain, each out to outdo the other with their own brand of chaalaki games.
PRATS'S SILENCE CAUSES GD CONCERN
Prats seems emotionally drained when she walks in to the Niwas that she doesn't give a hoot about the guest. But Takurain stops her and introduces Kesar's mother to her. Is Prats wondering at the polar opposite personalities between Kesamma and Kesar ? Or is her mind still preoccupied with Krishna's latest lying prank.

KRISHNA EMOTIONAL OUTBURST CAUSES CRASH LANDING
The guilt over his string of lies, his gratitude to Prats for saving his self-respect before his family with her earnings, paired with her refusal to trust him again is weighing heavily on him. Every word of insult and taunt from Takurain aimed at Prats for being a useless wife, not caring or taking care of her husband in reality translates and reflects his failure to provide for his wife. This round of taunts hits him in the gut as he struggles to maintain his cool and finally swings his hand sending his plate of food crashing to the floor. Will this lead to Krishna finally turning on his family for shortchanging him in life and not giving him an education? Will this lead to a falling out sweetly instigated by Kesamma causing trouble in the Niwas. Takurain gives Krishna a rather poisonous look. Wonder if she is going to gang up with KN and take out her anger at Krishna on Prats during the holi celebrations at the Niwas. All in all, it seems like Kriya's magical world is splitting at the seams. Will they be able to keep the fabric of their marriage together or will they be exposed before the Takur family causing a break up or a widening of the chasm caused by the challenges in their marriage?
