We cannot achieve true meditation without first going through the basic steps of self improvement and some discipline; this is mainly to calm the mind and stop it from being a nuisance.
Some find it very easy due to past life efforts.
Unlike what Nisargadatta Maharaj ji said:
When effort is needed effort will appear, things happen by itself just like the child grows up to be a man. Our real self the awareness, never changes. It is only the self consciousness or the individual ego that realizes it's true nature, like waking up from a dream.

Yes this dream looks very real but does not last as it is subject to time and other limitations.
We should try to wake up from this dream of life.
But the Bhakta does not care and sees the Lord in all.
