A Sonnet for Japan
Let the sheltered little ones stay sleeping
More dead found from the tow'ring water wall
Than from the shaking of the heaving earth
A mesmerized world has heard Japan's call
As a baby makes known its time for birth
Nuclear crisis looms; as power fades
To the South, a volcano comes to life
Rescuers dig with hands, shovels and spades
Look there; a husband searching for his wife
Over time, these strong people will adjust
