A Sonnet for Japan
So, today, there is no time for weeping
Too many remain beneath the rubble
Let the sheltered little ones stay sleeping
Let the sheltered little ones stay sleeping
And the bearded chin remain a stubble
More dead found from the tow'ring water wall
Than from the shaking of the heaving earth
A mesmerized world has heard Japan's call
As a baby makes known its time for birth
Nuclear crisis looms; as power fades
To the South, a volcano comes to life
Rescuers dig with hands, shovels and spades
Look there; a husband searching for his wife
Over time, these strong people will adjust
This is how it is and will be. They must
