The episode began with a woman crying in front of a man who was setting fire to the wooden bed prepared for burning a corpse. The woman was pleading with the man to give her some woods so that she can carry out the crematorial process of her dead husband. However, the man repudiated to do so and replied that king Dhananand had imposed tax on the woods also. This scenario was witnessed by Chanakya who was very dejected by witnessing this and then he left the place. Chanakya was walking through a lonely street engrossed in his own thoughts. Here, meanwhile, the man who had bought Chandragupta took the kid to a blacksmith who prepared an iron ring to which was attached a long iron shackle. The master ordered Chandragupta to step forward so that the blacksmith could slip the iron ring into his leg. Chandragupta was stunned by the action and he asked the master why was he putting the iron ring aroung his leg. An evil grin crossed the master's lips and he answered that he was doing so in order to ensure that chandragupta could not run away on getting the oopurtunity to escape. Coincidentally, at the very, rather crucial moment, Chanakya was sauntering though the same road at the side of which the would be emperor of undivided India was being fettered with the shackles of slavery.  Chanakya's gaze fall on the little boy whose back was turned to him and the man beside him. However, unfortunately, Chanakya didn't pay much attention and didn't come to a halt. Here, as Chanakya passed Chandragupta, the latter turned back slowly and with his master by his side he took the opposite direction to Chanakya. They both were going opposite to each other. Chanakya turned back but only the back of the kid was all what he could saw. As chanakya turned away again, Chandragupta turned back to him and then he too turned away. And both walked to their respective directions.

The master brought chandragupta Maurya to a prison like cottage. As he opened the door and entered, several other boys of different ages who had been lying there stood up one by one with a formidable sense of urgency. The master dragged Chandragupta by holding one end of the shackle the other end of which was attached to the iron ring around chandragupta's ankle and taking him to the end of the room he tied the shackle to the wall. Chandragupta was utterly shocked by the inhuman action. He questioned the man why was he tying him like that. The man replied that to ensure he could not escape by any means. Chandragupta valiantly looked him at his eyes and replied that if he had to run away he would have done that at the first place. Hearing to his reply,  all the other slaves there were stunned. The man, fuming in rage, warned all the other boys not to talk with the new slave and to keep their distance. He also warned the boys that if the new boy managed to run away then all of them would have to suffer. An expression of utter shock spread over the face of Chandragupta. At the moment, the door opened and a woman entered with a basket full of chapatis. The man approached her and then he gave the boys one chapati each. When he gave Chandragupta his chapati and turned away to move out, chandragupta wondered aloud at getting only one chapati. The man turned back furiously and grabbing him asked him whether he expected multifarious dishes. Then the man enquired him whether he knew the value of that one chapati and said that he'll show it to him. Then he took that chapati to the other boys and holding it at height where they couldn't reach, he asked who would like to have it. And all the boys started jumping to get hold of the chapati. Chandragupta was shocked and dejected to witness this poignant scenario.  Then the man finally walked out of the room. As soon as he was out of the room, the woman came forward with quick steps and gave Chandragupta a chapati and moves out of the room swiftly. Chandragupta was in no mood to eat and hence he sat down, resting his back against the wall and closed his eyes. He was remembering how his mother used to run after him to make him eat. All the other boys were lying on the floor. A little boy sat up immediately and tiptoed to Chandragupta and tried to steal the bread but at the moment chandragupta opened his eyes and the boy scurried back to his place immediate and sat with knees folded to his chest and arms wrapped around the knees. Chandragupta asked him what his name was and he answered slave. Another boy, who was lying by the side of that little boy, sat up and slapped him on the head and forbade him to talk to Chandragupta. But Chandragupta approached him and gave him his bread. The boy began to eat like a ravenous person. Then Chandragupta lied down thinking of his mother and dozed off.

It was dawn and Chanakya alongwith his disciple was walking down the road which led to the river. His disciple asked him whether the would be emperor of undivided India was there on Magadh and casted his doubt whether they could find him at all. Chanakya replied that the dawn could be found where there was night. The would be emperor was there in Magadh. All they needed was to find him out. And then he said that emperors  could not be found ready made but had to made. Then he went to the river and standing in waist length water he prayed to the sun god to help him in finding out the correct person with the help of whom he could bring about change. Here in the prison like cottage the rays of sun touched the face of sleeping Chandragupta as if answering the prayer of Chanakya. As the rays of sun filled the room all the slaves woke up except Chandragupta. The door opened and entered the master. As he saw chandragupta still asleep he became outraged and walking up to the little boy he kicked him hard, making him to scream in pain and coming out of his sleep with an abruptness. He grabbed Chandragupta and said that he was not in the lap of his mother and here he was only his slave and he need to learn to wake up early. As he turned to leave Chandragupta said that his name was not slave but Chandragupta. The man turned back and grabbed him furiously and said that he was only his slave. After the man left, Chandragupta walked up to the vessel of water and splashed some water on his face. That reminded him of the day when he ran to his mother with a wet face and his mother wiped off his fce with her clothe affectionately. He asked his mother why everyone called him Chandragupta and his mother replied that it was because it was his name. She said that he was a ray of light in the darkness of misery and gloom. This was his identity and he should not become oblivious of it. Chandragupta came out of his thoughts and his mother's words kept ringing in his ears. Meanwhile, a boy was mocking him and said that after receiving one or two kicks from the master he would soon forget his name. Chandragupta walked up to that boy and replied with stark determination in his eyes that he would never forget that his name was Chandragupta.

The scene sifts to a street where Chanakya was walking, accompanied by his disciple. He told him that there used to be a fighting competion during that time of the year and wondered whether Dhananand had stopped it like the "gyansabha" too. He said that there he could search for the would be emeperor. He went to the fighting ring and got mixed up in the crowd of the exicted audience.  The king approached the arena and after he took his place, mudrarakshas announces the rules of the fight which would have to be continued till one of the competitors took the ground  and the ultiomate winner would be awarded with thousand gold coins. The fight began and with time it tooh boody turn. Chanakya observed that one of the competitors was using brain alongwith strenght and declared that he would win as he didn't loss his mind in the vanity of strength. And ultimately he proved to be right. After the fight finished as he was leaving mudrarakshas' gze fall upon him and Chanakya also saw him. As mudrarakshas turned for a split second to instruct a soldier and turned back again Chanakya had already vanished in the midst of the crowd.

The scene sifts to a plateau region where Chandragupta alongwith the other boys was working. The little boy whom he earlier gave his bread suddenly fall on the ground and fainted due to thirst. Chandragupta walked upto  the rock where a pot full of water was kept and as he reached out to grab it, an arrow came with lightning speed and smashed the pot. He turned back to see the master standing at a distance with a bow clutched in his hand. He said that they wouldn't get water so soon and asked him to get back to work. When he said that the boy would die out of thirs, the master said that he didn't care. After a while the woman brought the master's food and as he leisurely reached out to grab the plate. A hand snatched away the vessel of water. It was Chandragupta. He took the water and walked away from the master. The master admonished him to either stop or he would kill him with the arrow and aimed at him. Chandragupta turned back and replied with a strange dauntlessness that he couldn't do so as he still had his money to be repaid. And walked away. And sure enough the master didn't kill him. He quenched the little boy's thirst. Now the master approached him and ochallenged him into a bet and he accepted.

Here in the king's palace Mudrarakshas went to inform the king about Chanakya but the king was busy in his luxurious activities. And asked him to do whatever the matter required. And finally ordered him to hang Chanakya.

Here chanakya came to meet the man who won the fightin competition and said that he was sent by Dhananand. However, the man courageously replied that he wouldn't take orders from anyone, may it be the emperor. This pleased chanakya. And when he asked the man whether he would do something. The man replied that he did things only for the sake of money. Chanakya became dissapointed and walked away.

While returning Chanakya sensed someone was following him and as he approached his disciple he asked him to keep quiet.

Thorugh a dark street of the town Chanakya was striding, dogged by a spy of the king. As the spy reached him and tapped his shoulders, he turned back and the spy saw that instead of Chanakya it was his disciple. The spy was frightened and he backed away.

As the man ran away. Chanakya came and stood beside his disciple who asked him how did he knew everything beforehand and he ignored the question and asked him to come along.
