Chp 5

 

Spending the day roaming in the streets of pankinagar, tired and exhausted Krishna and pratigya boarded some train. Waiting for the train to leave, Krishna closed his eyes, bent his head backwards and rested. Pratigya was fidgeting around with her messy hair, running her fingers thru it, complaining how oily they hv become.

P: I need to wash them…they hv turned horrible…yucky

K: hmmmm

P; krish

K: wat???

P; can I hv sum money to get water…I'm thirsty

Putting a hand inside his pocket he pulled out a 10 rupee note and handed it to her sleepily. Prts took it and got down from the train in search of a shop. As she was buying d bottle she didn't notice policemen running across the station and searching each and every train, she didn't notice them getting on to d boogie they were in, she didn't notice them pulling out a handcuffed Krishna and dragging him away….nor did she hear Krishna screaming out to her. She picked up her bottle and headed back to d train. Seeing Krishna's seat empty she was surprised. "where cud he hv gone leaving d luggage behind??". She leaned out of d exit peering d station weather he got down or knocking the toilet door on d train but he wasn't there.

 

Inspector mishra threw a bucket of icy water on krishna's face. Krishna face flinched. The inspector put his leg on the armrest of d chair, held krishna's face straight and spit on it. "bohut charbi chari hai….aayeyaashi karega?/?..haaa" he yelled.

K: maine kuch nahi kiya hai

I: acha…..toh mere paas teri complain kyu aayi hai…..hotel manager ko maaaro tune….ek javaan ladki ko behla fuslake maaze loot raha tha….bol….aur bolta hai maine kuch nahi kiya

K: vo jhoot hai

I: acha…toh tune uss manager ko maara nahi tha??

K: maara tha par…..

I: par…(slap)..maara tha….(another slap)….saale

K: uske piche meri vage thi

I: vage thi….suno (all men laughed)…bolbo kaa vage thi…hum bhi toh sune

K: vo pratigya ko gandi nazro se dekh raha tha

I: aur tuu toh usse rakhi bandva raha tha…haina

K: nahi…vo…

I: sidhe sidhe uss insaan se maafi maang varna (waving his stick)

K: jab maine kuch galat kiya nahi toh maafi kyu maangu

I: bohut josh hai tujme….haa……band kardo uss jail me….ek raat jail kii hava lagegi toh akkal thikane aajayegi

K: no…no….i need to go…pratigya

Krishna was dragged off and locked up in one of the cells.

 

Meanwhile pratigya had gotten off the train with d luggage in search of Krishna. Her heart was pumping loudly, while her mind raced in tension.  She had never been alone in her life and now here in some strange place with noone to support she was scared. Pulling the heavy bags along the streets which were slowly becoming abandoned as it was a few minutes above 9:00pm. She had no money with her to even lodge for d night at someplace. She remembered her papa and mummy, and cried….afraid at being out alone on d streets. She wondered where Krishna cud hv gone off without telling her, hoping nothing wrong had fallen upon him.

 

Not far away from there, at his favorite paanwala ki dukaan sat angad with his two chamcha lucky and jugnu. Munching his yummy pan, angad spat out a little, wiped his mouth with his sleeve (yuck) and said "khaana kha liya , paan chaba liya ab sirf ek laundiya ki kami hai". The chamchas chanted their nursery rhyme "jii bhaiya". Angad stood up and pat his stomach, burped loudly and said "chalo….kaa diwali ka intezar kar rahe ho?". The chamchas stood up to follow their angad bhaiya. Angad the local goon, 25 yrs of age, who hd been terrorizing the town of pankinagar for the past 6 years. He had been involved in all illegal activities that the Indian law court considered punishable. From drug sale to illegal note printing to murder Angad Yadav hd  done it all. In a span of a few years, he hd made the town of pankinagar to shake in their knees. His two chamchas were his aides in crime. Walking across the streets, he made his way to his nighly place place of reside, the red light area of the city. The 3 men walking on d lonely streets sang songs walking hand in hand. Suddenly, lucky stops angad and says "bhaiya….waha dekho". Angad turned to d direction lucky pointed in, bent his head leftwards and smirked. Jugnu hit lucky on his back in a friendly way. Angad licked his lips and bent towards jugna saying "aaj raat kaa intezam ho gaya". The two chamchas clapped their hands gleeing excitedly. Instructing them to wait there angad made his way to the girl standing on the streets all alone. He walked in a smooth pace, passing by her then turned to d poor girl and said "hello".  Pratigya, yes that was the girl standing alone on d street shivering in the cold.  She looked up at d guy standing in front of her, loosely tucked shirt, jeans, red mouth (paan) , combed hair and very handsome (sorry I'm a kunal fan). She thought best wud b to ignore him wishing he wud go away, as she didn't know who to trust or not. But angad didn't leave, he had sensed that this girl was lost and homeless, thus more easy for him. He again greeted her "hey, u look lost can I help u"

P: no thanks

A: see I can help u…u know it isn't safe for u to b out here on yr own… ppl arnt all good u know…so mayb I can help

P: I can manage…thank u

A: can I see u home….for yr well being u know

P: I can go…

A(sternly): listen miss….i am not going to leave u all alone here ..its not safe…either u let me escort u home which I don't think u have (pointing to d bags)…or u let me help u…tell me wats wrong….afterall u r like my sister (as if)

Pratigya easily succumbed to his sweet talks. Easily led off by him, she poured out d whole story to him ending with krishna's dissapearence. Angad smiled within "jackpot" he thought. He managed to earn her confidence with his talks (was always a good talker) and convince her to accompany him home, then in d morning he wud help her to fing her boyfriend. Pratigya easily agreed much to his joy and started off with him to wat she thought was his home. Angad fished out his mobile and typed a quick sms to his chamchas that meet him at d adda. During the walk, angad enquired more about her to which she readily poured out all the information while angad himself filled her up with all lies of him self (he was living alone, his family was back in his village, he hd a sister of her age back there overall convincing her he was a goody goody person). He led her to a small apartment in a lonely street. Opening d door, he led her in shutting the door behind him smiling evilly.

 

Krishna spent the whole night worrying. He knew that pratigya was too young and it wasn't safe for her too be out all alone in this strange place. He was awake d whole night not bcse of the fat man snoring beside him but due to the dirty thoughts that invaded his mind. He had yelled and screamed thru d bars that he needed to get out but the inspector didn't listen and went off to sleep. He even tried bribing d inspector, but as he didn't hv enough money on him the inspector refused to accept the meager amount. Deciding that he hd to do something to get out in d morning but for the timebeing he prayed that she was alright.

 

Lucky and jugnu walked across the streets drunk. After angad leaving they decided to go have a beer before going back to the adda, by that time bhaiya wud hv surely finished with her and they cud hv their go then. Making their way up d stairs swaying from side to side as they cudnt balance themselves. Somehow they reached the door and turned the handle down. From within, there was a loud scream ….pratigya's scream. Lucky and Jugnu looked at each other and smiled.😈
