What's happening on Jhalak?

With just six contestants remaining, its crunch time for the Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (Sony TV) contestants as one wrong move could send them home. We recap this week's retro themed episode that featured special celebrity guest Ali Asgar entertaining between performances.

THE episode started with the three judges, Saroj Khan, Vaibhavi Merchant and Juhi Chawla, being introduced as they danced to their own choreographed tunes, followed by the contestants' performances.

Parul and Deepak: Parul and Deepak performed the Latin American samba on Dum Maro Dum from Hare Rama Hare Krishna. Parul carried herself really well and did full justice to her performance. But the judges felt that the choreography could have been much better. The duo's energy levels were up to the mark as well as the Bidaai girl's endearing expressions. They got 24 points from the judges.

After their performance, Ali Asgar made his hilarious entry as Basanti from Sholay. He danced to Haan Jab Tak Hai Jaan, leaving the judges in peels of laughter.

Bhaichung and Sonia: Bhaichung and Sonia, who are giving the other contestants tough competition with their surprisingly good and consistent performances, jived to O Haseena Zulfon Waali. The judges felt that their performance was slightly weak in terms of energy levels and choreography. However, we thought that they rocked. Bhaichung did miss a few steps though, which couldn't be ignored. The judges gave them 25 points.

Ali Asgar's next skit was his Rishi Kumar impersonation from Om Shanti Om. The actor also had Vaibhavi dancing to his tunes.

Hard Kaur and Savio: Like every performance, Hard Kaur and Savio showed off their awesome chemistry this time as well. They did the lambada to the song Shola Jo Bhadke. The couple was excellent in terms of choreography and energy levels. All three judges were totally impressed by the lifts that they included in their routine. With all the praise, they garnered 29 points and were the highest scorers of the episode.

Shilpa and Nishant: This jodi is often known for the innovative and explorative ideas that they incorporate into their dancing. They performed an Indian folk dance to the song Bichhuaa from Madhumati. But luck didn't favour the duo and they got bad remarks from the judges. The judges criticised them for their choreography and their dancing. We agreed with their comments. However, Shilpa's energy level was at its peak as always. They received just 20 marks and were the lowest scorers.

Ali Asgar then popped up onstage again, this time imitating veteran actor Rajkumar. Judge Saroj liked his performance so much that she stepped onto the dance floor to join Asgar!

Karan and Nicole: They performed the cha cha cha to the song Manaa Janaab Ne Pukaara Nahi. Unfortunately, they didn't meet their usual standard and all three judges were disappointed. They felt the performance was very badly choreographed and lacked innovation. We too feel that they were weak in terms of coordination. Despite all the criticisms, they got 22 marks.

Gauhar and Himanshu: Everyone is well aware of the fact that Gauhar is the best dancer on the show and she manages to reinforce this with every performance. The model and her choreographer did the flamingo to the track Jab Tak Hain Jaan from Sholay. Their killer performance was appreciated by all three judges and it drove the audience wild. They were excellent in terms of choreography and their energy levels were superb. Gauhar looked very pretty in her yellow costume. They garnered 28 marks.

And for his final act, Ali came on to the stage as Aamir Khan. He dragged Juhi with him and they both performed to the track Neeind Churayi Meri.

Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa airs every Friday and Saturday at 9pm on Sony TV.
