Dev Anand's son Suniel Anand
Although Dev Saab delivered one hit after another in his prime, son Suniel somehow managed to consistently deliver a string of flops. His first film was called Anand Aur Anand and had a superstar cast including the likes of Raakhee, Smita Patil, Biswajeet, Raj Babbar and Dev Anand. Despite it, or perhaps because of it, Suniel never got noticed. The film flopped and so did his next Car Thief starring Asha Parekh. Four years later in 1988 came yet another multi-starrer called Main Tere Liye with the likes of Rajendra Kumar, Nutan, Asha Parekh, Meenakshi Sheshadri and Gulshan Grover. This film also tanked and it wasn't until 2001 that we heard of Suniel. He directed, produced wrote the script and acted in this film called Master. Like all his previous projects, Master failed to work but Suniel made his money by selling it to a prominent company called Dilsa Distributors. Dilsa went into the red after buying this project.
Love Story made Kumar Gaurav a teen sensation like no other. It seemed like a new star was finally born. But after Love Story, eight of Kumar Gaurav's movies flopped, leaving his distributors, his producers and him in the lurch. Then in 1986 his father made a film called Naam. Although it was meant to leverage his career, it was Sanjay Dutt who shot back into fame. Not the one to give up Rajendra Kumar made yet another movie called Phool in 1993. That film starred Madhuri Dixit who had apparently agreed to do the role for Sanjay Dutt. Phool bit the dust as did his other film with Juhi Chawla called Gang and that other one by Sanjay Gupta called Kaante.
The guy who modelled for Bombay Dyeing was called Karan Kapoor. His first mainstream Bollywood film was Sultanat and was directed by the legendary filmmaker Late Mukul. Starring Dharmendra, Sunny Deol, Sridevi and Amrish Puri Karan was paired opposite Juhi Chawla. The film failed at the box office. His other multi-starrer, Loha, went on to do great business but didn't help Karan much. The actor then shifted his base to London, acted in television shows there. He currently pursues photography and lives in London with his wife and kids.
Karan's older brother Kunal started young. He acted as a
child artiste, primarily in his father's films. His first mainstream
film was Ahista Ahista where he was paired opposite Padmini Kolhapure.
Made by Sibte Hassan Rizvi the film was a big hit but Kunal's career
failed to launch. Then in 1983 he acted alongside his father in the
much-acclaimed film Vijeta. The film was a box office success but yet again it didn't benefit Kunal much. He then acted in a few other films like Utsav and Trikaal. But that was where his career pretty much ended.
After making his debut in the box office disaster called Bal Bramhachari, Raaj Kumar's son Puru Raaj Kumar disappeared from the limelight. He then reappeared as a villain in a film called Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai. Although the film was a hit, Puru's career never really took off. After this, Puru was reduced to making cameos. He did one in Mission Kashmir; then he played a gurkha soldier in LOC Kargil and then also acted in the Aishwarya Rai-starrer Umrao Jaan. Little else has been known about him after this film.
He may have found a lot of fans in our office thanks to his debut film, Jimmy. But Mimoh's standing in the market today is not something to boast of. Jimmy, for instance, was shot three times over before it looked the way it did on the screen. It's another matter that the pathetic script and an even more uninspiring performance, made everyone laugh at all the wrong places during the film. Mimoh has yet another film called The Murder which has been in the cans for some time now. Apparently the film has no buyers. But we are keeping our fingers crossed.
Just like Sanjay Dutt walked away with accolades in a film made for Kumar Gaurav, it was Amrita Rao who made her presence felt in Arya Babbar's debut vehicle Ab Ke Baras. Needless to say the film tanked at the box office. But Amrita managed to salvage her career, something Arya never did. The actor went on to act in a film called Mudda. He also appeared as Aishwarya Rai's brother in Guru and then made an appearance in Chamku. But not having the conventional hero looks and average acting skills, Arya continues to be the lesser-known son of Raj Babbar after Pratiek made his debut in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na.
