'Can actresses hold placard against sexual exploitation in Bollywood'?

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri says it is good that many actresses are sharing photographs of themselves holding placards urging action in the Kathua rape case incident. However, he wishes they also voice their concerns against sexual exploitation in the Hindi film industry.

Several Bollywood actresses like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Swara Bhaskar, Sonam Kapoor, Shruti Seth and Mini Mathur have held placards asking for justice for the eight-year-old girl, who was kidnapped, sedated, starved, gangraped and murdered in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.

"It's good to see film heroines holding placards to make a point on Kathua tragedy. I wish they also hold a placard against the sexual exploitation of women in Bollywood. I wish they also refuse to do roles that portray heroines only as sex objects and dumb bimbos. Can they?" Agnihotri tweeted on Sunday.

Sexual abuse has been a topic of much debate in Bollywood and Hollywood in recent times. Prominent names from the entertainment industry have been discussing how men in power take advantage of women in exchange for taking forward their dreams.

However, Bollywood celebrities haven't been named and shamed.

Look who is talking huh...agreed many of the Btown protestors are hypocrites but the so called media spokesperson of a political party Vivek is no less a hypocrite who himself has been a part of making sleazy movies for a living. Adore his wife Pallavi though...who is one of the most versatile actress/anchor/singer allrounder we have since DD days.

First filmmakers should stop offering such roles. At the same time these women aren't angels...it takes a two to tango...just look at some of their insta pics, they post a pic of themselves in revealing dress and call those as bold and empowered...

i guess its not easy for women to take a stand in their very own workplace and thats a tragedy. Kangana took a stand n we all know how she is treated in Bollywood. Kangana also refused to advertise fairness products n thats y she looses tons of money which she can easily earn through
Ads.

Why ask women not do a certain role? You're offering them and they are doing it to earn their bread and butter. Why not take the first initiative and actually stop making movies that objectify a woman in the first place? Hate Story? Zid has a naked woman on the poster itself. Do people even think before saying anything?

Not only that these people are saying that they are ashamed to be hindustan , Rape is a world wide issue as a woman I will protest against it. I will again say rape has nothing to do with country, religion and now a days it has nothing to do with age

Vivek Agnihotri is a big hypocrite. A man like him shouldn't be speaking against sexual exploitation because he was the director of the first Hate Story which is a movie known only for objectifying women. Why such double standards Mr. Agnihotri?

I think its easy for men to speak about women boycotting other things during a tragedy. And i especially hate when people say oh well you also do this so why not stand up for that.. etc. Stop. Let the people speaking out for something speak out. This isnt the time for ifs and buts. And how about the men who create roles for women, grea
t decent and strong roles rather than damcer and bimbo roles because unfortunately a lot of women in the industry have no good options as actresses.

Amen, Vivek Agnihotri! But it's not just the women's fault here. If filmmakers stop offering women such roles, there will be a change there, too. The change needs to come from both sides. But yes, I agree that women need to stop saying yes to such roles. And I hate the filmmakers and actresses for those ridiculous "item numbers".
