Chittod Ki Rani Padmini Ka Johur
Padmini is the daughter of King Gandharva Sen and Queen Champavati of Sinhal Dweep. She is an eternal beauty and tales of her exquisiteness mesmerized King Ratan Singh of Chittod. He falls in love with her; marries her, after he wins her Swayamwar and she then becomes the ‘Rani Padmini of Chittod’. An astute reformer and administrator, tales of her beauty and valor reach Allahuddin Khilji, The Sultan of Delhi. The Sultan fantasizes the queen and wants to acquire her at any cost. But Rani Padmini’s love and loyalty towards Ratan Singh leads her to not only fight Allahuddin Khilji but also commit ‘Johur’ i.e. self sacrifice by burning in a huge pyre. Rani Padmini’s heroic act of preferring death to dishonour made her a legend and even to this day she is considered the epitome of Indian woman-hood and personification of sacrifice and valor.
