Comedy has once again peeped in as the flavour of the season. This genre, which was high in trend decades ago, has now found itself a new space. Be it reality shows or daily soaps, these days various channels seem to have taken this genre seriously. The majority of acknowledgments go to the films who have explored this genre consistently and effectively. And probably this is one of the reasons that have brought humor once again to the small screen.
Hold on. Before you take us wrong, let us clarify. Humor was quite existent on TV, especially with shows on SAB TV like Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, F.I.R, to name a few. The channel did take the humor element seriously. But what about others? There was only a pinch of humor in various other serials. It was only the script and actors dominating the show.
Though time has brought many changes on India television, there is rarely any show that can compete or revive the charm of some of the earlier sitcoms like Dekh Bhai Dekh, Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai, Office Office and Hum Paanch.
Now talking about the changes, the name that rule in this series is The Great Indian Laughter Challenge and Comedy Circus, and of late to join this league is Comedy Nights with Kapil.
If you screen through the trends, Comedy Nights with Kapil seems to have redefined the fun of enjoying comedy shows. Inspired from a British series The Kumars at No. 42, Comedy Nights with Kapil has made the weekends more fun. Such is the popularity that it made almost all the A-list Bollywood celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Mithun Chakraborty, Salman Khan, Kirron Kher, Deepika Padukone, Parineeti Chopra, Subhash Ghai, etc. all gracing the show.
Unlike earlier, the other way of making this show a hit is through the social-networking sites. As people relate with the characters in the show, the punches posted on various sites have not only made it famous in India, but also in various foreign countries.
The other show, which was introduced to give a tough competition to Comedy Nights with Kapil, was Mad in India. Sadly, it failed to create the charm and is coming to end soon.
However, why humor all of a sudden gained so much importance? Well. TV has of late been swamped with so many stereotypical serials and same concepts that a drive of change was desperately required to explore the non-fiction category. And this change was brought by various reality shows which also included comedy.
Besides, humor also helps people to relax and shed their daily troubles and enjoy. So, the weekend slots of such shows have undoubtedly successful. In addition, the tussle to be the best is always there.
To serve the viewers with some more fun, Zee TV has launched a new show Gangs of Hasseypur which will feature not only famous comedians but will entertain the viewers with different styles of comedy. So, may the best show win! What say?
