Sharing about his comic act as Gutthi, Sunil says, "I belong to a small town place of Dabwali on Haryana-Rajasthan border, so I can very well relate to the small town girls out there. I have seen the girls mentality there. They are not exposed to the media out there so they behave in such manner. So I would say Gutthi is very much like any other girl who would react to a similar situation she is no new."
Sunil went on to speak about the character of Gutthi in the show and he said, "In fact, I would say that the girls in small town usually react and act in a similar situation. I would say that in my earlier stand up comedies like Hans Baliye
on Star One
I have played the role of Gutthi in which I was appreciated a lot but this became popular on Comedy Nights with Kapil
. Also after Hans Baliye
I did Gutur Gu
on SAB TV
for 26 episodes again of the comedy genre."
We asked him how do they judge if the jokes are understood by the audience or not to which Sunil says, "We have a script with us but within 30 seconds we understand if the people actually understand the joke or not. Whether are they accepting it or not. If they don't then we actually try to modify it on the spot. By this we understand how will audience react to the type of jokes. At times we go over the board and then suddenly I have to mellow down my jokes as my character Gutthi is such. I sometimes go on and on and at that time I have to make my pace slow."
Talking about his coordination with his fellow mates on the show Sunil says, "Kapil is a great comedian and we all compliment each other and give space to each other. Even Kiku Sharada is one of the best comedians on the show. We are not in a game show to compete with each other. We are here on this show so that we can entertain the masses around."
We were inquisitive to know that whenever Gutthi enters the show and when the actors come, it becomes difficult for the actors to digest and understand the joke for which Sunil answered, "Yes earlier it used to happen that a particular actor would not actually be comfortable with a joke for which we used to first share our gags with them and then later we would make sure that the actors are comfortable on the show. The actors so far have been very particular but Akshay Kumar
actually wanted us to start with the gags."
Sunil shared about his personal life and what are his preferences he said, "I always wanted to entertain people. Initially I used to imitate my relatives, my uncle and aunt and my mimicry teacher. I somehow wanted to make this as my career. My father would take it as a joke always but once I did a stand up act in theater for which I earned 200 Rs. My father didn't believe me and said I must have stolen the money, next day he came to the theater to watch my act and then he believed that this can actually fetch money."
"Later on he supported me and I enrolled myself in National school of Drama and learnt the art and today its my bread and butter," added Sunil.
He shared his future plans with TellyBuzz, "I would want to be five times richer in terms of gags, knowledge, friends, art and craft and of-course money."
"I am not a girl I am a man behind Gutthi. 5'11 inches man who is ready to entertain you with my Gutthi act," concludes Sunil.
