"Casting is a passion-driven field." - Rakshit Anand
In conversation with Rakshit Anand, Associate casting director of 'Siya Ke Ram'..

Nainital lad, Rakshit Anand came to the city of dreams to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. However, after acting in a few episodic shows, his friend introduced him to the field of casting and his destiny soon landed him into casting of popular shows like Nisha Aur Uske Cousins, Crime Patrol, Yeh Hai Aashiqui, Adaalat, Bharat Ka Veer Putra - Maharana Pratap and many more...
Having been associated with ace production houses like Contiloe Productions, Bodhi Tree Productions, Lost Boy Productions and Four Lions, Rakshit soon bagged a big opportunity with Triangle Film Productions to cast for epic mythological drama 'Siya Ke Ram' on Star Plus.
Sharing his experience of 4 years in this industry, the actor turned casting director talks about his experience in this industry and his aspirations.
Rakshit, you came to Mumbai to pursue your dreams in the field of acting. How did you land into a differing field?
Well, I had no plans. I purely believe its destiny which brought me here. Survival in Mumbai is not easy. One needs substantial finances and as a newbie actor, I could not generate it. Soon, my friend suggested that I should join casting and my interest towards this field has only grown since then.
What are your responsibilities as an Associate casting director?
The most crucial aspect is to meet the requirements of the channel by bringing on board actors who not only fit the role as per physical requirements but also justify the role they are designated. 'Siya Ke Ram' is my first mythological show and casting for this show has been a learning experience in itself, as it is very different compared to the daily shows. I am blessed to work under my senior Amrish Sharma, who has helped me explore a lot in terms of casting actors.
What difficulty did you face while casting for Siya Ke Ram?
When we cast for a location in Mumbai itself, it is little easier compared to a shoot scheduled out-door. Time management is very essential during such projects.
You sure have a hectic work life. What are your work timings?
What is that? (Laughs). There is no time for personal space here. We work 24 x 7 as per the requirements. To pull of a job like this, one needs passion for the profession!
Can you highlight how episodic shows have proved to be beneficial for actors?
Look, the popular actors have careers steady but aspirants take a long time to gain visibility. Episodic shows are an essential platform for newbie actors to showcase their skills as performers. It also helps them groom themselves for daily soaps.
What are your aspirations in this industry?
Casting is a passion and I hope to find growth in my career ahead.
Way to go Rakshit!
