Sid Makkar, who plays the tough guy Shankar in 9x’ Mere Apne is going thro’ pangs of sadness as the cast and crew starts the last week of shoot for the Smriti Irani serial which is going off air very soon.
“We were like one big family and the farewell wishes have already started on the sets of Mere Apne. I will really miss my co-stars”, quips Sid. Ask him about his next project on TV, and the actor says, “I am going on a well-deserved break”.
The actor who got married to his long-time friend Shalini last year has not been able to take his wife for a honeymoon yet. “I was tied up with Mere Apne and a film. There was a situation wherein I had to choose between the film and honeymoon, and I chose the film”, quips he as he laughs.
The actor will be seen in the movie ‘Straight’ which stars Vinay Pathak, Gul Panag, Ajay Chaudhury. “The story is about three friends; and I play a London born and brought-up guy who is a rock and roll star. Since the guy has been in London all his life, he talks with a unique accent; and I had to work on my accent a lot to get it right”, states Sid.
Sid will be part of a play produced by Tanaz and Bakhtiyaar, ‘Table for Two’ which will star Sandip Sikcand, Tanaz Currim and Bakhtiyar Irani. “This play will deal with various issues the individuals face. To begin with, we will have the play in Mumbai, and later will be moving all over India”, quotes the actor.
Ask Sid whether he is game for reality shows and he quickly asks, “Are reality shows ‘real’?” However, the actor now prefers to take a break from television and wants to make it big in Bollywood!! Apart from Straight, Sid will also be seen in Zoya Akhtar’s directorial debut ‘Luck by Chance’ which will star Farhan Akhtar, Konkana Sen Sharma, Juhi Chawla and others.
But Sid is quick to clarify that he will be back on television if he gets something unique and nice!!
We wish Sid all the very best in his future endeavors!!
