How do today's female actors define beauty? Check out what Divyanka Tripathi, Surveen Chawla, and Mouni Roy have to say about this...

As heroines in the telly industry are growing with each new serial, the competition is also rising as actresses must keep up with their looks and their reputations at par with the characters they portray. We catch up with some of the most beautiful women in television - Divyanka Tripathi of Banoo Main Teri Dulhann, Surveen Chawla of Kaajjal, and Mouni Roy of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Thi and ask them how they define beauty and what it feels like to be some of the most beautiful women on today's television screen...

How will you define beauty? Is there really a true definition?

I feel that beauty is whatever one feels comfortable with... for example, the attire they wear, or accessories etc.. that is where the beauty comes from. It's about how well they carry it, and their comfort level. I believe it's the internal beauty that reflects on your face... if you are beautiful on the inside, you look beautiful outside. If you see a beautiful person attractive from the outside, but not so attractive from the inside, then maybe you don't find them beautiful...
It's the reflection of your internal beauty.
 
You are considered as one of the 'beautiful' women on the screen. How does that make you feel? Do you have a certain rapport or reputation you must live up to?

It doesn't affect me much. It does feel good... for me, I am very simple, and it might be my simplicity that people might like. Maybe it's also because I am good inside that it reflects me like this.
 
Many people feel like this, but I don't understand why people expect a particular person to be artificial. I would wear what I'm comfortable in... people stand up to their own expectations and not of others. They dress up for themselves. If I'm satisfied with what I'm doing, then others' expectations will be fulfilled themselves.
 
Do you believe in natural beauty or is makeup a key role in adding some colour on the face?

Yes, I do believe in natural beauty, but I also do add colour to my face. In real life, I also use pure lip gloss... It's really an individual's choice, but I prefer natural beauty.
 
Who do you think is the most beautiful actress on telly screen?

I find Aamna Shariff very beautiful... 
 
Describe beauty in terms of how Vidya, your character, would say it.

In terms of Vidya, it would be natural beauty only... She dresses for her husband only, and not for others.
 
There's a saying that 'beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder'...and that beholder would be Sagar.
 
 
Vidya's character, in terms of decking up for the role, is quite simple compared to other actors. Why do you think this is so?

Because she is a simple girl. I also put in my input as well, when she's dressed up simply then I also like that. We have tried many things, but she looks better with simple attire and a minor amount of eye-liner.

How will you define beauty? Is there really a true definition?


This is not a superficial one.. According to me, if you are beautiful, then your heart should be beautiful for that.. If you are not beautiful in your mind and from within, then you cannot be seen to be beautiful. Your thoughts have to be clean and pure, and the beauty should penetrate from within…

You are considered as one of the 'beautiful' women on the screen. How does that make you feel? Do you have a certain rapport or reputation you must live up to?

I am greatful to my fans who have called me ‘Beautiful’. It is extremely tough to maintain this beauty, because thoughts need to be positive always. The person needs to be put in more effort and try not to deviate from the positive part… I always believe one thing, which my mom has told me.. My mom is a very beautiful woman and I remember her telling me that one way to remain beautiful and have a clean and pure heart, is even if a person says the worst thing about you, you should forgive the person and bless the person and think that the person did this, without knowing what he/she is doing.. So I always try my level best not to keep grudges and ill feelings for others.

Do you believe in natural beauty or is makeup a key role in adding some colour on the face?


I don't like makeup at all. I always see to it that I have just a base on my face while shooting. I do not use heavy makeup. I like to be absolutely simple and let my face, eyes and work talk. I do not like to paint my face with loads of makeup and get applauded for it.  

Who do you think is the most beautiful actress on telly screen?                                             

I can't remember anyone from tellyscreen at the moment, because I never watch TV.. In Bollywood, I can say that Aishwarya Rai is the most perfect and beautiful woman on the planet.

Your character's name is Kaajjal. How does makeup, or in this case, kaajjal add to beauty? Do you believe it enhances it or only takes away its naturality?

I would say that Kajal adds little bit of years to your face. In the serial, I was made to wear Kajal as my character name is synonymous to that. But I never preferred wearing it. If it was left to me, I will not put Kajal at all, because I feel that Kajal does not do anything to enhance beauty. On the other hand, it takes away the simplicity and softness to the eyes and gives a very hard appearance.. …

Your character is also known for wearing very pretty salwar kameez. How does clothing affect the beauty of a person? Is it all in the face or total appearance as well?

Oh yes, it is the total appearance that matters at the end of the day. I do not like to wear bright and gaudy dresses. When I am to attend a personal function, I would like to deck up. But onscreen, I want to be simple and realistic. I do not like to wear over the top clothes, I would rather prefer to wear clothes based on the mood in the scene. For example, when I am doing a crying scene, I would love to be simple and sobre and not look grand sporting a gaudy dress. My designers are very nice, I do a lot of 'khit-pit' with them regarding my dressing. Most of the colour combinations that I sport in Kaajal are my ideas… But one more aspect to dressing is that, one needs to have the capability of carrying it onscreen, no matter what dress the person is wearing..

How will you define beauty? Is there really a true definition?


Beauty lies in the eyes of the being.. One needs the personality to carry yourself, the way you speak and maintain yourself is what counts. It is just not the face value alone. To me, beauty comes as a whole package, but for being beautiful, you need to be good, not carry reputation.. I'm happy and thankful that viewers see I am beautiful…

You are considered as one of the 'beautiful' women on the screen. How does that make you feel? Do you have a certain rapport or reputation you must live up to?


I hate to put on makeup. Any girl would look far better without it. It is without makeup that your real self comes across well. I don’t believe in makeup. It just helps in complimenting your beauty, but it also depends on how you carry yourself...

Who do you think is the most beautiful actress on telly screen?

Shilpa Saklani in tellydom and Sushmita Sen in Bollywood.


How would you describe Krishnatulsi in terms of beauty?

Simplicity is her agenda, it can't be anything else.


Does your character take beauty as something very important?

Yes, not exactly from what she looks from outside. She is well accepted by the public, so KrishnaTulsi has to look beautiful, healthy and nice. She is a simple, the 'girl walking next door' kind of a person.

One thing is definitely in common - as all three believe in natural beauty, they surely are naturally beautiful! Divyanka, Surveen, and Mouni, as they have said, do not have to wear excessive makeup nor wear lavish clothings to portray their beauty.
