My character Maria, the
manager at Muskaan's caf is quite close to her. I am romantic. I have shot
some scenes with RaQesh Vashisth and Aamna Shariff. I love my boss, that's Muskaan
(essayed by Aamna Shariff). I appreciate her a lot but; also when Rohan tries to be
sweet to me, my character will take his side. In short, I'm on both sides.
(Laughs). Currently I am ill and was immediately admitted to the hospital.
However the hospital authorities had advised at least 24-48hours of
supervision, which doesn't allow me to shoot even for two hours and creates
telecast issues in the current episodes. Hence they discharged me unwillingly,
specifying that if something happens, they will not be responsible; as I told
them that I had to report to the sets too. They have taken a few close ups for
the time being. Let's see how it goes further as it depends on my health. They
don't want to replace me as I am good, probably!(Laughs).
Please tell me about your family and educational background.
I was born in Bhiwandi, in Maharashtra (Thane District). My dad is a photographer and mom a housewife and beautician. My younger sister is studying in First Year B.Com and brother is in Class X. I studied in Holy Mary Convent High School and then pursued B.M.M (journalism) from Nagindas Khandwala College (Mumbai).
How did you get into acting?
I was working as an intern with IBN7 and then with tellychakkar.comas a reporter. It was then that a mutual friend told me that I would exactly fit the bill of a character they were looking for in Meri Toh Lag Gayi Naukri and insisted on me auditioning for that role. It was of a gossip girl in the office. Then some creative changes were made to the script and I became a receptionist, which I was not too happy playing so I had to quit. Anyway, the show soon came to an end but by then I developed an interest in acting as it was a varied and challenging thing and I had quit reporting just to try something new. Hence, I kept auditioning for other roles and was unemployed for almost a good 3-4 months, as I had not attended any acting workshops: In short a total zero!(Laughs) Soon after, I acted in two episodes of Mrs. Tendulkar on SAB TV. Then I was taken in as Preeto in Star One's Geet Hui Sabse Parayi replacing Divya Bhhatnagar. I played Mona Singh's cousin in Kya Hua Tera Vaada and as Honey in Mrs. Kaushik Ki Paanch Bahuein. I am also in Ek Doosre Se Karte Hain Pyaar Hum by Hats Off Productions, on Star Plus, which is officially my first show which went on air late.
What was your first on screen romantic scene like?
It was just a hug with my on screen husband Ahwaan Kumar. I was to hug him real tight as an apology for having doubted him. Later, there was a kissing scene, which was even more comic as the kiss had to be initiated by me (blushes). As it was my first romantic scene ever I was hesitant to hug him. So I requested that rather he should hug me first, but according to my character I somehow managed to do both of it. (Laughs)
How would you compare the journalism world to the acting world?
As journalists we can be far more outspoken
and can criticize actors too. As actors we need to be calculative about what we
say. After all when we are actors, people are keeping a watch on what we are
eating, wearing and how we carry ourselves and about our lifestyle, friends and
everything.
As journalists we would
often jump to the conclusion that an actor has great attitude when the same may
not be true in real life. The truth actually is that actors hardly have a
personal life as they are so overworked. There are a handful of actors though
who develop haughty airs and are very rude to the spot boys. I however choose
to remain to be the way I am in real life! Friendly, modest and to improve as
an actor is what I always look forward to.
What are your future plans?
I prefer acting to journalism. Acting is also a very financially rewarding career and always varied and challenging. I initially wanted to be a radio jockey but ended up being an actress. As far as acting roles are concerned (as I am a modern person) I would like to do more of Western and distinct roles. Besides, I would also like to do reality shows but not Bigg Boss (as I can't manipulate and won't survive in that house for even a day). Then I would love to do Comedy Circus or some dancing reality shows. I would like to get acquainted with the TV industry thoroughly through acting. Maybe in future I'd like to be behind the camera as a part of the creative team. People may think I have not struggled unlike other actors, which is not true. I am working hard and trying my best to make a small place in the viewers' heart.
