Are you a Vegetarian or a non vegetarian?
I am a strict non-vegetarian ( emphasises on strict) .
Are there any foods that you would not eat as a child but eat now?
I never used to eat turkey, duck, or similar kind of meat. However, when you go abroad, it’s very difficult to find the kind of food you want. So I eat them now, but don’t enjoy as such.
Do you watch your calories when you eat something?
Definitely yes . See, I love food, but I also have a tendency to gain weight, so I have to watch what I am eating. However, when I am out partying or on a holiday, I simply binge and hog whatever I love. On a regular basis though, I watch carefully whatever I eat.
If you go to an Indian restaurant, what are you most likely to order?
I love Biryanis, so if I know that a restaurant serves good biryanis, then that is the first thing I would order. In Mumbai, I have been to many restaurants, and I have made it a point to find out what’s the best thing on their menu. So if I go to ‘Urban Tikka’, I order nimboo chicken, when I go to ‘Chrisna’, it’s Hydrabadi fish Tikka, at Zafran, it’s Zakhni Biryani and so on.
Which part of Indian cuisine fascinates you the most?
It’s Mughlai. I am from Kanpur, and being so near Lucknow, I love the food there. The Biryanis, the kabas…yum….
What is your favourite ‘Ghar Ka Khana’?
I love Dal Chawal. Other than that, I love the Soya Methi my mom cooks, and my mother-in-law’s Aloo Gobhi. I am not fond of vegatables, but if I have to eat them, these are the only things that I can eat.
Any particular dish you think of and your mouth waters?
Anything which has cheese. I love cheese, and it being a high calorie food, I am not supposed to eat it. However, whenever I see cheese, good quality cheese, I simply cannot resist.
What is the most expensive restaurant you have been to?
Aurus. It was probably the most expensive, and unfortunately we tried Japanese cuisine, and I hated the food.
Not really. I am more of a complete meal person. Even if I eat snacks, I eat it like a meal (laughs)
Are you a coffee or a chai person?
Chai. On a regular basis, I have one or two cups a day, but when I am shooting, its more like six or seven cups a day. Its very normal to have tea on a regular basis during shoots.
Do you drink alcohol?
Yes, but nothing strong. The only thing I can drink is a Baccardi Breezer.
Orange. And yes, I also like to have what’s called ‘zumboka shots.’
What is the strangest food you have ever tried?
Its ‘Sushi’. I had heard so much about it, and used to wonder why people love it so much. So, I made it a point to try, and it tasted yuck. It’s only later I found out that it’s raw fish, and it put me off completely.
What’s your normal food schedule in a day?
Usually, I get up and have a cup of tea. I am not a breakfast person, so the maximum I eat is an apple. For lunch, I have one katori of dal, salads, and some chicken or fish. I eat low carb , so no rice or rotis. For dinner, I make salads or have tandoori chicken or fish. I drink a lot of beverages. In fact I am not a chai or a coffee person, but a pepsi person. I love having pepsi. I also love Lassi, so I alternate.
What is the favourite dish that you cook?
I love Sanjeev kapoor’s recipes. I tried out his ‘Chicken Hazarvi’, and it came out fantastic! So that is one dish I love to cook.
Recipe for chicken Hazarvi
Chicken breasts (boneless) - 8 pieces
Ginger paste - 2 table spoons
Garlic paste - 2 table spoons
White pepper powder - 1 table spoon
Salt to taste
- ½ cup
Green chillies - 4
Mace powder - ¼ table spoon
Nutmeg powder - ¼ table spoon
Chopped coriander leaves - 2 table spoons
Egg - 1
Fresh cream - ¾ cup
Butter - for basting
1. Cut chicken breasts into two inch cubes.
2. Apply ginger paste, garlic paste, white pepper powder and salt to the chicken cubes and keep aside.
3. Mash the cheese to make it into a smooth paste. Add finely chopped green chillies, mace powder, nutmeg powder, coriander leaves and salt.
4. Add egg and mix well. Add chicken to the cheese mixture. Then add fresh cream and mix delicately.
5. Keep in the refrigerator for about two to three hours.
7. Apply a little butter for basting and cook for another two minutes till the chicken is completely cooked.Reporter: Minnie Gupta
