Review of Hongey Judaa Na Hum

Summary: Maybe the show’s opening TRP isn’t impressive but it seems to be a promising show....

Raqesh Vashihst and Aamna Sharif in Hongey Judaa Na HumChannel on which it is telecast: Sony TV, 9pm, Monday to Thursday, Production House: Adhikari Brothers, Genre: Romance

What is it like to fall in love with the same person all over again? That is what Hongey Judaa Na Hum it seems will be exploring. However this journey of falling in love again is with impediments as after all there are two concurrent love triangle tracks too.

Both Muskaan (essayed by Aamna Shariff) and Rohan (essayed by RaQesh Vashisth) have lost their memory after an accident. Muskaan's mother Tara Mishra (essayed by Deepshikha Nagpal) blames Rohan for instigating constant fights in their marriage and makes her sign divorce papers after she had a heated argument with her husband. The couple however make up but their vehicles collide right after. They survive the accident but on regaining consciousness the just can't seem to stand one another's presence. Dr.Aniruddh, the neurosurgeon (essayed by Aamir Ali Malik) who operated on them, advises that they shouldn't come face to face else it will cause serious health complications. Their families don't even remind them of the past. All memorabilia that they were husband and wife are all destroyed.

Things have however change a year later. Destiny makes the two of them meet again. Rohan has started falling in love with Muskaan all over again though he started off by having a playful fight with her. He however is yet to realize that his feelings for her and proposes to another lady. Meanwhile Dr.Aniruddh is acting like a possessive lover who doesn't want Muskaan to pay the slightest attention to any other man.

This seems to be a sweet and touching love story. If explored well it may emerge as a powerful love saga. Sony TV already has mature love stories like Kuch Toh Log Kahenge and Bade Acche Laggte Hain. This show also caters mainly to urban educated viewers albeit a younger crowd. It is a far cry from a saas bahu soap.

However, I had expected the opening TRP to be higher. Unfortunately it is just 1! Maybe the show needs to be given time to catch on and build over the mind of the audience. After all it currently faces stiff competition from Diya Aur Baati Hum on Star Plus and Pavitra Rishta on Zee TV (at the same time slot), both of which are currently amongst the top ten shows.

Hongey Judaa Na Hum is aptly keeping the suspense alive till now. For instance the actual reason as to Muskaan was married to Rohan instead of Dr.Aniruddh is yet to be revealed. It seems that Muskaan and Dr.Aniruddh had a past too. Also, why does Muskaan get sentimental when she sees kids? Is it that she can't be a mom, her child passed away, went missing, was given up for adoption or something else? Viewers are speculating about this dark past.

The story seemed to be quite brisk paced with twists in the initial episodes. Now the pace has slowed down slightly but that is what the plot enfoldment now demands.

As far as character delineation is concerned Muskaan, Rohan, Dr.Aniruddh and Muskaan's mom Tara Mishra (who instigated their divorce) are quite interesting characters and can be explored very well. It is nice to see a loving and caring domestic helper Nitai who brings a smile to the viewers' lips. The show had started with melodrama and has now taken a more chirpy note.

I was a bit disappointed with the hospital scene. Why do doctors and nurses have to shout while treating a critically injured patient? Patients who are apparently unconscious or just regaining consciousness may still be able to hear and know what is going around them. However this keeps on being repeated in hospital scenes in most daily soaps.

Verdict: Three and a half out of five stars
