balika vadhu and message?
I watch this show but I couldn''t get what the makers want to say... Yes, the show is about child marriage but what happened to Anandi? She is living happily(except for few hiccups). And the Gehna case.... they are starting this love story(?) between her and Basant.. so, old man and young girl ki marriage will be justified in the course of time by the makers of the show.... and Gehna want to abort the child as the doctor told that it would prove dangerous for her. But some article said that both mom and kid would be fine. So, if we think that is true, what are the makers trying to say. Just by seeing the ratings, these makers are becoming greedy and are deviating from the initial idea. Giving a message at the end of the episode is not enough if you have to make some difference.
I''m sorry , but I dont agree with the views put forward by the article. It seems to me that every show has been ridiculed in it , and baselessly so too . I dont watchall the shows taken as examples here , so I cant comment on anything else but Balika Vadhu .
In my opinion , such shows should be lauded for taking up sensitive topics . They arent glamourising societyy''s evils , but they''re helping to awaken people to the presence of these evils. I thought that child marriage no longer existed in India , but after BV I searched the internet and everything and then , to my horror , I discovered that they still do , and even in urban centres. I read reports of child marriages in cities like Delhi and Jaipur in the newspapers.
Secondly , serials are fiction . Reality never imitates fiction , fiction imitates reality . The bias shown against Ragini in Bidaai is something which is prevalent all over the country now , matrimonial ads always advertise prospective brides as fair , et all.
I do agree with the point put forward about ambitious women , they either have meandering husbands or they are negative . And that is something totally wrong , so hats off to you for that part.
But for the rest.... TV is entertainment after all , and even if they are portraying a thirteen year old Jagdishya helping twelve year old Anandi to sit exams in secret , I''ll prefer watching that to watching some character undergo plastic surgeries countless times. Child marriage is a punishable offense , I know , but it is still prevalent in India , and atleast this show has some semblance of reality .
Its not any sort of glorification of evils .
This article is soo superficial. The author seems to have taken all the topics widelymentioned by everyone to ridicule Indian Soap Operas to further ridicule these soaps. It''s almost like you didn''t actually look at the message behind these shows or you don''t understand what people want to see.
I''ll tell everyone straight up...I don''t want to turn the TV on at 9pm and be watching how to add 1+1 or the life of lions in Africa...that''s okay once in a while not everyday. I watch TV and movies for enjoyment usually and to have fun. Agreed it''s important to make ppl aware by using this effective medium, but not everything has to come down to making a difference and taking a country forward. Let the movies and soaps be man! The fact is that these shows are successful...what''s wrong in showing people the emotions and drama they want to see.
Furthermore, what''s wrong with Shree...I thought TV and films were one''s method of expression. If someone wants to depict a story with such a setting what''s wrong with it. We don''t expect every novel to be pathbreaking and bringing about change...then why should we expect EVERY show to be following India''s motto. Let them express their own feelings and fulfill their artistic desires.
And the only way to overcome problems like Caste differences, colour discrimination or class differences is not by depicting a society where all are equal, cuz that would be unbelieveable....but by developing a scenario where all is in chaos and slowly showing the reasons for developing the outcome we want....thats the only way you can prove to ppl to get rid of colour differences or caste differences or etc.
You can''t just give it the audience, you have to give them reasons to believe that your philosophy is correcct and should be followed.
Okay and about women being hit badly in our shows....
Forgot to say
Can we shrug off the responsibly from our shoulders by blaming the producers and channels for such shows?? No! !Just that as they have the medium of mass communication which they can use to bring a change for the betterment of society, we can also contribute by encouraging them. Let''s all be more responsible and contribute in our own little way, as we are somewhat away from what we can be!
Well said i completely agree Kudos to the makers of the show and u for such a gr8 article
Interesting article and wonderful concept... Bidaai has indeed a lot simplistic and realistic approach but sadly there are ppl who behave in such a way but yes agree with rest of the points.... what can i say its tellyland after all!! But yes one thing good way of introspection....
