This article is soo superficial. The author seems to have taken all the topics widelymentioned by everyone to ridicule Indian Soap Operas to further ridicule these soaps. It''s almost like you didn''t actually look at the message behind these shows or you don''t understand what people want to see.

I''ll tell everyone straight up...I don''t want to turn the TV on at 9pm and be watching how to add 1+1 or the life of lions in Africa...that''s okay once in a while not everyday. I watch TV and movies for enjoyment usually and to have fun. Agreed it''s important to make ppl aware by using this effective medium, but not everything has to come down to making a difference and taking a country forward. Let the movies and soaps be man! The fact is that these shows are successful...what''s wrong in showing people the emotions and drama they want to see.

Furthermore, what''s wrong with Shree...I thought TV and films were one''s method of expression. If someone wants to depict a story with such a setting what''s wrong with it. We don''t expect every novel to be pathbreaking and bringing about change...then why should we expect EVERY show to be following India''s motto. Let them express their own feelings and fulfill their artistic desires.

And the only way to overcome problems like Caste differences, colour discrimination or class differences is not by depicting a society where all are equal, cuz that would be unbelieveable....but by developing a scenario where all is in chaos and slowly showing the reasons for developing the outcome we want....thats the only way you can prove to ppl to get rid of colour differences or caste differences or etc.

You can''t just give it the audience, you have to give them reasons to believe that your philosophy is correcct and should be followed.

Okay and about women being hit badly in our shows....

Interesting article and wonderful concept... Bidaai has indeed a lot simplistic and realistic approach but sadly there are ppl who behave in such a way but yes agree with rest of the points.... what can i say its tellyland after all!! But yes one thing good way of introspection....

Disappointing analysisI am not sure if the purpose of this article is to ridicule all the serials or analyse if they provide a good message or not. Even though I am not a fan of all the serials, however I completely disagree with the analysis. Because shows like Bidaai, Saat Phere, Balika Vadhu etc are touching on the sensitive issues of the society, are showing the truth but also giving us hopes by providing loving family members to Anandi and sending her to school inspite of Dadi sa and her child marriage, getting Ranvir for Ragini, even though she was rejected many times...isn''t this Truth Vs. HOPE....and ofcourse they are glamorized to an extent. Lets not forget these are dramas and not documentry shows.

one of best ariticle in IF. very true I upset with the way fmale characters r portrayed in daily soaps. glamoriging things like black magic , child marriage in todys time will serve no good purpose. Serial makers shud realize their duty towards the society.
In every second serial a middle class or poor girl is forced to marry a rich guy who is either bigda hua munda or a insane to save her family. this she is tuanted by her in laws for her economic status. this is utter nonsense. In Uttarran the the lead is girl is shown so greedy. She is dreaming for riches without any effort. It wud''ve been better if she was show as a very talented or studious girl who want to change her life with her by her own talent n hardwork.

Amitious girl r always shown as negative. why??

very nice article.
audience knows n accepts wht our tv shows have bcome today, but who is to b blamed is not very clear. the audience themselves (bcoz, they demand such shows) or d production house, who keeps bombarding d audience w/ baseless shows even when nobody is asking.
ppl at both end will have to change.

agree with this article on ALL levels..Indian shows don''t portray life properly, they overexaggerate on unimportant things & make it seem like people only come in black & grey. ; either they''re saints or they''re ''real'' peoplee..
