Holi has been celebrated for centuries. This image of Radha and her girlfriends flinging handful of colored powder at one another dates to 1788.
In my view, Holi is beautiful. People chase each other, dance and express their happiness with vibrant colors on this day. But enjoying this festival comes with its own set of norms. One has to be cautious as while one dresses to impress, things can get messy with the over load of colour and water!
If you can't think of anything else when it comes to Holi outfits, there is always the option of going with the traditional look, a white dress. But why go with the same old stuff when there is so much more to explore and try out?
In our special festive feature, Tellybuzz brings to you the outfit trends you can experiment with in this Holi!
The first priority is comfort while picking what to wear at the Holi festival. While white is the customary shade while playing Holi, plum not only looks rich but romantic too. Pairing plum and white is the latest trend along with floral wear.
Also, Deepika Padukone was seen breaking the trend of the customary white by pairing red and white through songs 'Lahu Mooh Lag Gaya' and the audience favourite Holi number - 'Balam Pichkari'!
A suggestion: Wear white top to bottom. In case of a traditional wear, one can pair it with a plum or red dupatta while western outfits can be paired with a scarf of the said colours.
White sarees have been popular choice of women for Holi. Since ages cotton and chiffon fabrics are the most popular ones. Infact one can groove better on various tunes!
Breezy and comfortable crop top and palazzo pants are very much 'in' and so are sun-dresses and flared kurti's with leggings.
Coming to hairstyles, I remember how my mom used to do apply an overdose of oil champi tie a French plait and send me out of home to enjoy the festival.
But as grown-ups, I am sure we all want to look hip and chic among our friends.
Oil is essential to get the colour out of your hair but least we can do is style our hair well. A top knot ponytail can give you the classy look. If you do not want to let you hair loose, simply tie a classic low knot and nape it with bobby pins and your rubber bands.
A bun adds refined elegance and will protect your hair. Apart from that, bandana's can get you the rough and tough look!
Shabana Azmi was seen sporting her hair covered elegantly in a bandana. However, if you want to keep it simple yet stylish, standard and the stylish braids will make you stand out, particularly the Dutch braid formed into a decent bun.
Coming to make-up and beauty, experts always recommend going raw as make-up would anyway wear off or may one look shabby. However if you really want to look good when you initially meet and greet your friends before playing with colours and look presentable I suggest doing up sunset eyes!
A tinge of peach eyeshadow with an extended eyeliner slight reddish or teal in colour would complete the Holi look. For lipsticks, creamy pink ones should work for you. Personally, I think these colours would not lose effect while playing and would add more sparkle to your face for a perfect selfie photograph!
