I am visiting India from Europe and am completely shocked at what I witnessed yesterday. In a city like Delhi which is already so over polluted - most Indians seem to have absolutely zero regard for the environment. They also seem to have absolutely no regard for the poor, sick, dying and all the animals, birds and dogs on the streets who are so badly affected with the noise and air pollution caused by fireworks on diwali. Why can't Indians celebrate Diwali in a more civilized way perhaps like westerners celebrate Christmas? Why must there be all this disgusting fireworks pollution, noise, and horrible behaviour everywhere to celebrate a festival? Why are Indians so disrespectful and completely blind to the issues facing the world and their own country?? Fireworks are full of chemicals which stay on the trees and in the air even months after Diwali is over - the money burnt on these stupid fireworks could be of much better use to the poor dying people of India. Sorry but I think most Indians are totally uncivilised people and have no respect for the environment - and the government here seems to be completely disgusting for not enforcing strict laws to curb pollution and respect the environment. There should be a strict ban on fireworks - the entire industry should be finished off in India. Fireworks sales should be banned so people can't even go buy them if they want to - private display of fireworks should be completely and fully banned in India and only a public display should be held by the government restricting it to 1 hour maximum with more environmentally acceptable fireworks being lighted. Diwali should be fun and clean with lights and beauty everywhere - not smoke and noise and drunk aggressive behaviour with so much violence on the streets of India.
Unless the government here bans fireworks - people will not have any respect or awareness...most Indian people simply "do not care" - they live their own lives and don't care for anything ...
