Sushant Singh Rajput, one of the main leads in forthcoming movie "Kai Po Che", ushered in his 27th birthday with a surprise party thrown by his girlfriend, television actress Ankita Lokhande at a suburban restaurant here. The couple is likely to tie the knot this year.

Sushant turned 27 Monday.

"Actually, Sushant had no plans for a party. Nor did he have an inkling of Ankita's surprise party. Since he had to shoot for Maneesh Sharma's film on his birthday, Sushant wanted to spend a quiet evening at home with his girlfriend and a bottle of champagne," said the couple's close friend.

However, as they say, 'Man proposes, Woman disposes'. So, Sushant found himself surrounded by all of his and Ankita's friends from the movie and television industry for his birthday.

"This is a very special year for Sushant. He makes his movie debut this year. And Ankita wanted it to be a very special birthday," said the friend.

This year, Sushant and Ankita who are among the most devoted couples in the entertainment industry, plan to make their relationship legal.

"Sushant feels Ankita is as good as his wedded wife anyway. But they come from conservative families. For the sake of their families, Sushant and Anikta intend to go through a wedding ceremony this year," said the friend.

The two met on the sets of popular TV show "Pavitra Rishta". While Ankita is still associated with the show, Sushant moved on to fulfil big screen dreams.

"Kai Po Che!" is his debut film, an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's bestseller "The 3 Mistakes of My Life". It has been directed by "Rock On!!" fame Abhishek Kapoor and also stars Amit Sadh and Raj Kumar Yadav.
