Jammu, Jan 2 (IANS) The number of devotees flocking in 2012 to the cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi in the Trikuta hills in the Shivalik range surpassed all previous records, an official said Wednesday

Nearly 1.05 crore pilgrims visited the shrine in 2012, according to an official of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board that manages the affairs of the shrine, 64 km from Jammu. Its base camp, Katra, is 50 km from Jammu .

Chief executive officer of the shrine board, Navin K. Choudhary, said 1,04,95,269 pilgrims visited the shrine during 2012, an increase of 3,79,622 pilgrims from 2011.

The pilgrimage crossed the one crore-mark last year for the first time.
