Islamabad, March 29 (IANS) Six people were killed and 14 injured in a massive explosion that targeted a convoy of security personnel a short distance away from the US Consulate in Peshawar, a media report said.

The blast took place in a high-security zone with the US Consulate only 500 yards away from the site of the explosion and the corps headquarter half a kilometre away from it, reported Dawn.

The deafening blast hit a vehicle of the Frontier Constabulary.

The media report said Commandant Abdul Majeed Marwat was the target. Marwat, however, escaped the attack that took place at a military check post.

Mohammad Faisal, a police official, said the dead include two women.

Eight to 10 kg of explosives was used in the blast, he said.
