J&K landmine blast: Porter loses leg

Jammu, Nov 17 (IANS) An 18−year−old porter working with the army in mountainous Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir lost his left−leg in an explosion near the Line of Control (LoC) as he stepped on a landmine Saturday, an official said.

Jammu, Nov 17 (IANS) An 18−year−old porter working with the army in mountainous Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir lost his left−leg in an explosion near the Line of Control (LoC) as he stepped on a landmine Saturday, an official said.

The porter was identified as Shakeel Ahmad who was working with Bihar Regiment on the LoC near Poonch. The incident took place at Cheetah post, about 150 km north of Jammu.

According to spokesman the landmine could have strayed out of the mine field, "which is not unusual in mountainous terrain".

Shakeel was carrying stuffs to the post when the landmine blast occurred ripping his left leg and he fell unconscious. The army shifted him to a hospital in Poonch where he is undergoing treatment.
