Raipur, Nov 30 (IANS) Chhattisgarh Thursday made wedding registrations mandatory and asked people to inform the marriage registrar even about engagements.
'As per the Supreme Court directives, the state government has made marriage registration mandatory. It is a must for people wedded on and after Nov 20, 2006, to obtain a certificate from the registrar,' a state government statement said Thursday.
The state has also advised people to provide correct details, including residential address and marriage date, in a form available free of cost with the registrar.
The applicant has to inform the registrar through registered post about marriages within a month of the ceremony so that the government can depute a staff to complete the registration formalities and issue certificates to the couples.
The government also said it would impose a fine up to Rs.2,000 for wrong information.
