New Delhi, March 14 (IANS) Timely detection in the form of routine urine, blood and blood pressure tests can prevent the rising chronic kidney cases in India, doctors said here Thursday on the occasion of World Kidney Day.

"About 1.5 lakh new kidney patients are added every year to the growing number people suffering from renal diseases," said A.K. Bhalla, senior consultant, department of nephrology, at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.

"Regular blood and urine tests can help early detection and bringing this number down," he added.

According to doctors, diabetics, smokers, people suffering from high blood pressure and those having a family history of chronic kidney disease should be extra vigilant as these are some of the main reasons for kidney diseases.

This year's campaign "Kidney's for Life - Stop Kidney Attack!" aims to educate the general public and the healthcare community about diseases that affect the kidneys and the importance of early detection and intervention.

If proper measures are not taken, a case could go from bad to worse easily.

The National Kidney Foundation estimates that around 100 people in a million suffer from kidney ailments in India.
