London, Sep 10 (IANS) British funnyman Ricky Gervais has denied reports that he invited only top stars on his show 'Extras' to improve its TRP ratings.

According to contactmusic.com, Gervais admits that Hollywood actors like Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Stiller pull in huge crowds but insists he chose them because of their persona and not for the power they possess in showbiz.

He says: 'It was never about the names. They have to have something to deconstruct, whether they're a global superstar or not, something to play with. It is an ensemble piece - not just about one person.'

The second series of 'Extras', featuring Chris Martin, Orlando Bloom and 'Harry Potter' star Daniel Radcliffe, will go on air next week in Britain.
