Mumbai IT professional in US leadership programme

Mumbai, Jan 11 (IANS) A Mumbai software professional has been picked for an American leadership programme that emphasizes the importance of pluralism, tolerance and volunteerism as components of civic life in the US.

Mumbai, Jan 11 (IANS) A Mumbai software professional has been picked for an American leadership programme that emphasizes the importance of pluralism, tolerance and volunteerism as components of civic life in the US.

Aamir Idrisi, 31, is president of the Association of Muslim Professionals (AMP), will be among four Muslims from 40 countries to be selected for the 22-day programme.

"This programme will allow me to ineract with people from the government and NGOs across the US and others from different countries. It will give me a chance to project India in a much better light and provide an opportunity to share and learn," Idrisi told IANS.

Entitled "American Youth: Inspiring Leadership and Civic Engagement", the programme's goal is to examine the concepts of democracy, government and citizenship and their importance in the US civil society.

The program would help participants identify skills to groom future leaders.

Starting with Washington, the program will continue in Maryland, New York, Florida, Texas, Arizona, Utah and Oregon.

Besides Idrisi, there are three other Muslims from some other countries who are scheduled to meet prominent Muslims and Muslim groups working in the US.

The AMP, with 50 chapters spread across 12 Indian states, is an independent, intellectual body providing a platform for Muslim professionals to share knowledge, experience and skills.
