Beijing, Feb 1 (IANS) China Friday congratulated John Kerry on his becoming the US secretary of state.

Beijing, Feb 1 (IANS) China Friday congratulated John Kerry on his becoming the US secretary of state.

China was willing to work with the US to implement the consensus reached between the heads of the two countries for building a cooperative partnership, Xinhua quoted foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei as saying.

He said that during the past four years, China-US relations had been generally stable while achieving major progress thanks to efforts made by leaders, governments and people of both countries.

Hong said China hopes the two nations can explore the forging of a new type of relationship.

Democratic Senator Kerry replaces Hillary Clinton as the next secretary of state.
