Santaan Concept/Characters/Story so Far

Santaan is the story of Dixit family, who are based in Kanpur. It's the struggle of parents to bring up their children and then the pain of seeing those children move away. It's the story of a close knit family of Gayatri, Parikishit Dixit and their three children (Kartik, Adwait and Suhana). Gayatri and Parikshit got married to each other against the wishes of their families and they vowed to base their life and love on their children and given them a childhood, which they never got. A childhood filled with love, fun and respect. They made sure that their children got the best even if that meant Parikshit working harder than usual and Gayatri compromising on her needs. But both were happy their children loved them...

And after years of toiling, Parikshit retires when Kartik gets the high profile job in a MNC. They move to a big house and then starts trouble in the form of generation gap. Parikshit has always believed that work is part of a life and not the life itself, but Kartik having seen his parents toil for years believes in creating wealth. He is a workaholic with no time for his family. Slowly Gayatri and Parikshit realise that they have become outdated and have also become a cause of embarrassment for their trendy children. Whether it means the way they dress or the new environment of their new home where everything is expensive and fragile they find themselves in a completely different world. Even the neighbours are snooty and they find themselves confined just to their home.

Will the Dixits be able to adjust to the differences in their point of view and co-exist or will the family fall apart? Watch to find out.

Oct 22 – Oct 25

Gayatri, while living with Parikshit's greedy Mama and Mami finds out that she is pregnant. While Parikshit loses his job, hence both are kicked out. Mama and Mami's son, Abhay, helps Parikshit and Gayatri find a house in a chawl. Gayatri becomes friends with her neighbour; Latika. Parikshit shows Gayatri an apartment that he is planning to buy for their new family. Gayatri goes to invite Mama and Mami but they literally kick her out and she is taken to the hospital, where it is revealed that she must be operated on immediately and it will cost Rs. 50 000. Parikshit decides to sell their dream house.

Oct 29 – Nov 1

Gayatri's dad, J. R. Jaiswal, offers Parikshit money for Gayatri's surgery, with the condition that he leaves Gayatri. Parikshit refuses the money. Parikshit arranges the money by selling their apartment. Gayatri goes into labour and after a successful operation, has twins. Tapasya (Gayatri's bhabhi) wants to see her and the twins, but neither Gayatri's father nor brother (Uday)bother. Mama and Mami have greedy thoughts about Parikshit's apartment and they visit Gayatri. Abhay tells Mama-Mami that Parikshit sold the apartment and they reveal this to Gayatri. Tapasya and Uday are unable to have children and when Tapasya asks Uday to get checked up, he refuses. Gayatri's dad refuses to see Gayatri and her children.

Nov 5 – Nov 8

Gayatri and Parikshit name their sons 'Kartik' and 'Aditya'.  Tapasya tries to commit suicide out of depression of not having a child. Gayatri drops Tapasya home where she sees how she is ill-treated. Parikshit and Gayatri decide to give one of their children to Tapasya. They give Aditya to Tapasya who is more than happy. Uday refuses to accept him, as does Vishaka, but J. R. accepts him and plans to throw a party so the world can see him too. Parikshit and Gayatri miss Aditya a lot. J. R. wants the first party invitation to go to Gayatri-Parikshit, who are happy to be invited. J. R. refuses to accept Kartik.

Nov 12 – Nov 15

Parikshit is severely insulted at the party and Gayatri vows that she will break all relations with Kartik if he ever insults Parikshit. Gayatri breaks all relations with her family. J. R. tells her that she will never be able to meet Aditya from now on. Time goes on and Latika has a daughter, Namrata. Parikshit gets Kartik admitted to the same school that Gayatri attended. Gayatri sees Tapasya and Aditya. Vishaka convinces J. R. that Parikshit is trying to insult him by getting Kartik admitted to that very school. Parikshit gets fired from his job because of J.R. Gayatri is pregnant again, but seeing Parikshit sad, she decides to hide it from him. Gayatri manages to get Parikshit's job back, but he is transferred to Lalitpur, and he refuses to leave Gayatri, but she convinces him. J. R. is planning to get everyone from her chawl evicted, a plan of his to get her back in his house. Parikshit leaves, as does Latika to go to Jaipur and Gayatri finds out that she has to empty her house.

Nov 19 – Nov 22

Gayatri doesn't tell Parikshit about the one month notice. Parikshit calls Gayatri and Kartik lets slip about the eviction, but Gayatri covers up. Aditya is shown to be a very demanding and spoilt child, who gets everything he wants. Gayatri's house is emptied and she is kicked out. J. R. pays mama-mami to not keep Gayatri in their house. Mama puts a lock on their house from the outside. J. R. is preparing for Gayatri's re-entry, and Vishka isn't happy. She tells Gayatri the entire truth ang Gayatri asks J. R to leave them alone. Gayatri and Kartik take up shelter at a mandir. Some rich man offers Kartik money, but he refuses it. Parikshit finds out that no one lives at his address anymore. He saves Gayatri from some guys. J. R. plans something else to get revenge from Parikshit.

Nov 26 – Nov 29

Tapasya, just in time, hands over the real papers for the chawl and its destruction is stopped. 4 years pass, and now the Dixit family is shown with Shubh in it as well. Kartik is ashamed of Parikshit's job and status and feels embarrassed when he shows up to school. Kartik deliberately doesn't invite his school friends over to his house on his birthday. Kartik lies at school about Parikshit and Gayatri feels really bad. Parikshit decides to send Kartik on his school trip. Mama and Mami have come to live at Parikshit's house. Gayatri and Parikshit tell Kartik that he can't go to Goa after all. Gayatri gets a waitress job at the same birthday party that Kartik attends, unknowingly. Kartik is upset and promises Gayatri that one day he will be rich and he will fulfill all their dreams. A 20 year leap happens and Kartik tops his college. Gayatri is worried about Shubh's results. Suhana is introduced and she has topped her class too.

Dec 3 – Dec 6

Suhana proclaims that she doesn't want to study further, but just marry a rich guy. Shubh has once again failed, and he convinces Gayatri to lie to Parikshit for him. Parikshit is upset when he finds out the result. Kartik and Namrata come closer. Kartik tells Namrata that he has applied in a university in the US to study further. Kartik gets admission into the university. At the party Gayatri finds the letter and confronts Kartik about it. Parikshit supports Kartik and Gayatri is upset. Kartik asks Namrata to take care of his parents while he is gone and he explains to her why he wants to go abroad, while Parikshit hears. Kartik decides to not accept his admission, but Parikshit assured Kartik that he will convince Gayatri.

Dec 10 – Dec 13

Gayatri tells Kartik to accept his admission and everyone is happy. Kartik needs lakh rupees to go, and Parikshit and Gayatri are worried about the funds. Some guys tells Parikshit that once a child goes to the US, they never return, but Parikshit is sure that Kartik will come back. Parikshit is unable to get money, and Kartik is upset because he needs the money soon. Shubh snaps at Kartik for being childish in his demands and they have a small argument. Gayatri cheers up Shubh and Shubh and Kartik make up. Everyone decides to get Kartik and Namrata engaged before Kartik leaves. Shubh bumps into a girl. Parikshit and Gayatri go out to buy a suit for Kartik, but they don't have a big budget, so they are insulted, and Kartik is in the same shop. At the engagement, Kartik deserts Namrata to answer the phone.

Dec 17 – Dec 20

Kartik gets the visa, and then the engagement ceremony is completed. Kartik and Namrata go to a party thrown for Kartik, where Namrata overhears Kartik lying that their fathers are business partners. Kartik tells Namrata that he is ashamed of the situation they are in and of their poverty, and Parikshit and Gayatri overhear. Shubh follows the girl he had bumped into, Jia, to a gym where he pretends to know her and gets a job. Parikshit and Gayatri gift Kartik a very cheap suit for his birthday and Kartik is upset. Everyone is emotional about Kartik leaving. Kartik tells Namrata that he loves her. At the airport, Kartik makes up something about the coat and his friends throw it away, breaking Gayatri and Parikshit's heart. Kartik leaves.

Dec 24 – Dec 27

Namrata gets a job at J. R.'s office as Aditya's assistant. Aditya gives her the condition that she can't marry for 1 year, and Namrata agrees. Shubh agrees to go on a track with Jia and her friend Vish (who loves Jia). Vish plays a trick on Shubh and makes him agree to carry all their bags. Then Vish puts ants in the food Gayatri cooked. Latika and Gayatri go to Namrata's office, where Gayatri and J. R. have a hit and miss. Aditya's cabin is a mess and Namrata arranges everything neatly, but Aditya is upset about it. Gayatri is told of a surprise part being held for Parikshit for 20 years of service at his office. Aditya mistakes Namrata for his girlfriend and hugs her. An upset Namrata decides to quit her job. Shubh is lost and searching for Jia. Aditya apologizes to Namrata and convinces her to take her job back. Aditya drops his wallet and Gayatri picks it up.

Dec 31 – Jan 3

Gayatri doesn't see the picture of Tapasya in Aditya's wallet. Namrata stays late at work, and while going home, some goons start chasing her. Aditya saves her and gives her a ride home. Suhana lies at her college about being rich. Aditya slowly falls for Namrata. Parikshit is pleasantly surprised at the party thrown by his office and he gets a cheque for 7 lakhs. Shubh introduces Jia to his family, and they like her a lot. Vish plans to separate Shubh-Jia. Namrata goes to Jaiswal house, and Tapasya instantly likes her. Suhana lies to her parents to go to a party, but her lie is caught. Parikshit plans to spend the money on the apartment they had planned to guy all those years ago.

Jan 7 – Jan 10

Angad is introduced, as a guy everyone wants to be with. Suhana says no to him for a dance and he seems impressed by her. Everyone confronts Suhana about lying and sneaking off to parties. Namrata convinces Aditya to go to a Pooja on time, and Vishaka isn't happy. GR drops Namrata hone and is shocked to see Gayatri there. Aditya is completely in love with Namrata. Shubh takes some Halwa for Jia and Vish becomes jealous. Kartik and Namrata fight over the phone, and Namrata is upset that Kartik doesn't value her job. The apartment dealer sells Parikshi's apartment to another person as well.

Jan 14 – Jan 17

Jia tries to warn Shubh about Vish. Suhana, yet again, lies and goes to Angad's pool party. Angad's cousin, Tanya, is introduced, who suspects Suhana and her claims of being wealthy. The Dixit's find out that the house they bought was also sold to someone else.  Shubh tells wish that he is planning to propose to Jia. Vish and his friends convince Shubh that since Jia is a rich girl, he should give her something expensive while expressing his feelings. The family tries to take some kind of legal action against the broker, but no one is on their side. They loose all the money they had invested in the apartment. Aditya and Namrata have a fight.

Jan 21 – Jan 24

Kartik calls and asks his parents for a large sum of money. Shubh overhears and takes his own earnings and puts it silently in his parents' room. Namrata and Aditya bond. Shubh is worried about his money. Shubh decides to box a guy to win some money. Shubh wins the fight, but gets badly hurt in the process. Aditya meets Gayatri and she gets odd feelings. Shubh practises proposing to Jia on Namrata, and Aditya teaches him how to propose properly. Shubh goes to propose to Jia, but Vish and company play a prank on him, making him propose to some other girl. When Jia comes, Vish proposes to her and Shubh leaves. Jia leaves Vish and goes to find Shubh, but he is heartbroken and misunderstands her. Kartik gets a job in the US. Aditya asks Tapasya to invite Namrata to his birthday, which she does.

Feb 4-7
Suhana is arrested for the accident. Adi takes the blame for the accident. Shubh finds out that Suhana is guilty. The family urges Suhana to confess n they wud save her, however they r unable to bail her out. Karthik gets into an argument abt principals, right n wrong with his parents n states he doesn't believe Suhana is wrong. He announces his decision of marrying Nams asap n moving to America thereafter. The family conts to try to bail Suhana out. Parikshit informs Gayatri they might have to sell the house for Suhana's bail

Feb 11-14
Karthik accepts the job offer in America. Nams is saddened abt his decision. Shubh enrolls for a boxing match to get money for Suhana's bail but is taken sumwhere else n given money instructed that he will b given work later. Suhana is freed by Adi n the credit is given to Karthik, Shubh feels dejected. Karthik tries to persuade his parents to let him n Nams settle in America as that is his only way to success, however Gayu disagrees n says she can not live without him. Karthik decides to stay back when Gayu suddenly changes her decision n accepts Karthik going away. Parikshit n Gayatri console each other abt Karthik going away. Shubh feels less capable of Karthik n tells his parents he wont ever leave them as he is not as capable as Karthik.

Feb 18-21
Parikshit explains to Shubh that both he n Karthik mean the same to Par-Gayu as they r their kids. Nams parents r emotional abt her going to US. Adi proposed Nams but she turns him down saying she is gettin married. Adi is heartbroken. In college, ppl taunt Suhana. Anusha is in love with Karthik. Shubh misunderstands Karthiks consolement n both get into an argument. Gayatri is sad seeing the state of affairs in the house. Parikshit consoles her.

Feb 25-28
Shubh-Karthik make up. Kar-Nams wedding celebrations in full swing. Anu is heartbroken when she finds out abt Karthiks wedding. Par-Gayu explain the meaning of marriage n the life thereafter to Karthik n Nams. Anu behaves crazily for Karthik. Poornima cums to Karthik with a proposal of giving him all luxuries of life if he marries Anusha. He thinks on confused n in frustration takes his anger out on Nams who feels insulted the way Karthik talks abt her thinking.

March 3-6
Anu cums to meet Karthik who ends up furious with her behavior. Adi is upset n Tapasya consoles him. Karthik turns down Poonimas offer which leaves Anu n Poo shocked. Nams reads the deal papers that Poornima offered Karthik. She is shocked on knwing the whole story. She asks Karthik to swear upon her that this marriage isnt a compromise but he is unable to do so. Nam goes to Adi n asks him whether he is still interested in marrying her n he tells her he loves her n agrees to marry her. Karthik realizes his mistake n tears the deal papers n thinks he will love Nams a lot. Vishaka breaks Adi-Nams wedding to the Dixit family. All rush to the mandap but r too late to stop the wedding. Everyone blames Nams. Latika questions Nams decision n curses her.

March 10-13
The family conts to blame Nams. Nams reveals to Karthik she had to do this inorder for him to achieve his dreams. Karthik expresses his love for her but Nams tells him its too late. Latika conts to curse Nams. Karthik is unable to take it n reveals that watever Nams did was for his sake, his happiness. Everyone is disappointed in Karthik. Lats is saddened at the way her daughters life has turned up. Adi tries to make Nams feel comfy in the new environment n gives her space n time to adjust. Karthik decides to leave for America since he cant face anyone. Shubh agrees with his decision n says he has insulted yrs of frendship with Nams. Poo n Anu arrive at the airport n try to stop Karthik frm leaving.

March 17-20
Karthik decides to marry Anu n introduces his family to Anu's Mom. The marriage date is 2 days away. Poornima takes charge of all the expenses n Par-Gayu feel insulted. Par-Gayu discuss abt Anu's status n whether she'll b able to adjust. On the sangeet day, there is a lot of drama frm ppl not recognizing the groom n his family to Anusha dressing very badly. Anusha is bugged on knwing that Kar wont b staying in the new house rather with his family in the chawl. She behaves very rudely but Poo sumhow manages the situation. Poo keeps insulting Kar's family by sending expensive gifts n cars to use. Karthik gets frustrated n declares they must stop or he wud not go ahead with the wedding. Nams n Karthik cum face to face on his wedding n r sad. Adi consoles her while GR decides to bring Adi face to face with Par-Gayu n Adi's identity.

March 24-27
Gayatri n Parikshit cum to knw Adi is their son. Karthik messes up on the vows during the wedding n blurts Nams name instead of Anus. Anu gets angry n leaves the mandap but soon returns on her Moms insistance. She starts to throw tantrums after the wedding on each thing frm a car to the house n argues with Karthik. Poo tells Anu to b patient n make Karthik dance to her tunes without him knwing. Anu again fusses abt the house n every little thing. Gayu-Par feel sad. Shubh is given sum task n is uncomfy abt doing it. Adi's behavior gets suspicious after he starts to lie to Nams abt going to office n talking on the phone.
