Assalam-o-Alikum,

Pakistan's Entertainment industry is full of talented artists. Pakistani Serial's Development Team has decided to pay tribute to these legends, and discuss their contribution in our industry. And make us proud and we can say that our zameen has produced some anmol diamonds, which are more precious then Koh-i-noor.

Every 15 days, we will pay a tribute to a celebrity. And we want you to take part and discuss ups and downs in their life, and how they struggled to achieve, what they are today.

Proud Pakistani!!

Regards,
Pakistani Serial Forum's Development Group

Profile

Ustad Mehdi Hassan is Pakistan's supreme specialist in the art of Ghazals. An outstanding vocalist, Mehdi Hassan has captured the imagination of listeners worldwide.
He was born in 1927 in a village called Luna in Rajasthan, India and was tutored by his father Ustad Azim Khan who was at the Court of the Maharaja of Jaipur. He was taught in the various styles of vocal music including Dhrupad, Khyal, Thumri and Dadra from the age of eight. His chief characteristic is his relaxed and assured style of presenting each of his Ghazal.

Life Story

The life story of Mehdi Hassan is a journey of trials and tribulations. After partition the family migrated to Pakistan and suffered severe financial hardships. To make ends meet Mehdi started working in a bicycle shop and later became a car and diesel tractor mechanic. His struggle ended when he was given the opportunity to sing on radio in 1952, primarily as a thumri singer, this got him recognition within the musical fraternity.
He sang ghazals of all the renowned Urdu poets and soon his innovative style was soon appreciated by both the masses and discerning audiences.

Another important feature of his style is the importance of correct pronunciation, delivery of words are of utmost importance. Mehdi Hassan's popularity resulted in his becoming one of the most popular playback singers of the Pakistani film industry from the early 1960s to the late 1980s.

Thanks Aji Clap

Mehdi Hassan is renowed and respected world wide because everyone appreciates musical talent. 'Rafta Rafta Woh Meri Hasti' is one of my fav ghazals by him. I'm not a frequent listener of ghazals though. LOL I didn't know about his prior struggles. Thanks for that information. He struggled a lot but his hard efforts earned him much success and respect. u all r Welcome
i just came to know 1 more thing that
Mehdi Hassan has sung National songs as well.
Apni Jaan Nazar Karoon
- i love this National song, i can listen to this National song 100000000...times
Hum Mustafa Hain is also one of the National song sung by this Legend.
i like his song
Mujhe Tum Nazar Se Gira
Yah Watan Tumhara Hai- one of the National Song
if you notice one thing that there's no dhoom dharaka in his songs as far as i know, it's just plain music which makes you feel good

I have heard a lot of his ghazels... they are all very good... I particularly like "mujhe tum nazer se gira to rahe ho..." and "rafta rafta..." ...his life story is really moving... I had no idea about it until I read it here... Good Job, Aji! Thanks for sharing this info with us... It's people like him who have earned so much respect and recognition for Pakistan worldwide... We, being Pakistanis, should definitely know about them and pay tribute to them...
