'Nupur Talwar likely to be arrested'

New Delhi, June 15: Taking forward its probe into the month-old Noida double murders of teenaged Aarushi Talwar and her family's domestic help, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday said her mother Nupur Talwar too could be arrested even as a team intensified searches at their home.

The agency conducted a third lie-detector test on Nupur Talwar, and said her statements contradicted those of her arrested husband, Rajesh Talwar. A CBI official said Nupur could be arrested on the basis of her statements.

"We have conducted three lie-detectors tests on Nupur Talwar since Friday. Two tests were conducted at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), including one today, and one at the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), Delhi," said the official.

He said Nupur's statements contradicted those made by her husband before investigators. Rajesh Talwar has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the May 15 night double murders of his daughter and the family's domestic help Hemraj.

Earlier Sunday, the investigating agency carried out a psychological analysis test on Rajesh Talwar in Dasna Jail in Ghaziabad.

During the test, a polygraph instrument collects physiological data, including changes in sweat gland activity, blood pressure and heartbeat, as questions are put to the person.

"The test will also help in establishing the chain of events on the night of the incident, as to who was killed first," a CBI source said.

A close friend of Aarushi, wishing anonymity, said a news agency that she loved her father very much and was planning to gift him a hand-made painting on Father's Day (June 15).

On Saturday, Rajesh Talwar's compounder Krishna was remanded in CBI custody for three days. He was arrested on Friday evening after a series of scientific tests, including narco analysis, were conducted on him in Bangalore.

Aarushi, 14, was found killed in her Noida home on May 16 morning. While the police initially named missing domestic help Hemraj as the main suspect, they found his body on the terrace of the house the next day. Rajesh Talwar was arrested May 23 as a prime suspect.

Meanwhile, the CBI intensified its searches in and around the Talwars' residence in Jalyayu Vihar. A team visited the locked house in the morning, reached the rooftop, walked up to Krishna's room and then came down.

The sleuths also visited the sector-53 residence of Anita Durrani, a dentist like the Talwar couple, who ran a clinic in association with Rajesh, and came back within a few minutes after inspecting the servant room there.

The team took with them Durrani's domestic help Raj Kumar, who was close to Hemraj.

The CBI visited Durrani's house also late on Friday night and Saturday and interrogated her and her husband as well as Raj Kumar.

According to CBI sources, Raj Kumar mentioned that three people were involved in the murders of Aarushi and Hemraj.

Also on Saturday, the CBI cordoned off the Talwars' home and thoroughly checked the water tanks on the terrace and the water pipes to search for the missing murder weapon.

According to CBI sources, the agency received an anonymous tip-off about the murder weapon, now believed to be a khukri, a curved short knife. The Noida police had earlier said the murders were committed with a surgical knife.

CBI sources said more arrests are likely in the sensational case.

CBI Joint Director Arun Kumar, who led the search at Talwar's residence Saturday, tried to recreate the timing of the crime. He went from L-14, where Krishna stayed, to L-32 of the Talwars, through the terrace.

The investigators also questioned guards, security supervisors and a garbage collector.

CBI sources also revealed that an industrialist friend of the Talwars and the Durranis is to be put through a lie detector test. The industrialist, who works with Flex Industries, had lent his car to the Talwars in which they went to Haridwar to cremate Aarushi.

Looks like the C.B.I. like a caged wounded animal is lashing out at any and everyone. The investigation has taken a turn towards the bizarre and absurd. The C.B.I. seems to be putting any and every one through whatever tests they feel like without showing any cause. I am simply blown away with all the going ons in this investigation. It stinks of a total miscarriage of justice, and has trashed the fundamental rights granted to any citizen of India. Very sad state of affairs.....really very very sad.

CBI's latest briefing:

Nupur Talwar not going to be arrested as of now.

Durrani's servant Rajkumar subjected to polygraphic test, still in CBI custody, not arrested.

Another sevant of Talwars' neighbour, Vijay Mandal detained, his clothes or something siezed.

And interim report of the missing photos of the digital camera of Aarushi received.

CBI wants further remand of Krishna because he can lead to the murder weapon, the others involved in the conspiracy, the blood stained clothes , the mobiles of Aarushi and Hemraj, none of which have been recovered as yet.

But CBI insists that Krishna is involved in conspiracy and his role is clear as per the documents that are going to be produced in court tomorrow as his remand comes to an end tomorrow.

Arushi murder case: one more detained
Author: PTI Date: 16 Jun 2008

Police has detained one more person in connection with the Arushi-Hemraj double murder case

New Delhi: Police has detained one more person in connection with the Arushi-Hemraj double murder case.

The CBI has detained Vijay Mandal, a 24-year-old servant of Rajesh Talwar's neighbour. CBI officials have taken Mandal into detention for further questioning.

Earlier in the day the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday cordoned off the entire L Block complex of Noida's Sector 25, where the Talwar residence is located.

Dr Talwar's compounder Krishna, who is also under arrest, was also taken to his residence in order to reconstruct the crime scene and interrogate him on the location.

The investigators further searched for the murder weapon in a nearby drain and sealed a garage in the L-Block locality.

Combing operations have resumed in the hunt for the weapon with which Arushi and the Talwar's domestic help Hemraj were murdered.

Arushi's mother Nupur Talwar could also face arrest like her husband Dr Rajesh Talwar.

And who deleted the photos? Camera, now in CFSL Hyderabad, holds the key

New Delhi:
A picture is worth a thousand words, only if there is a picture. Believing in this old axiom, CBI sleuths looked into the digital camera of Aarushi only to find that several shots had been selectively erased.

Aarushi's camera record shows 23 shots were taken on the fateful night of May 15. On investigation, 18 were found deleted. Pictures 13, 15, 20, 22 and 23 are what the CBI now has and the agency believes the missing pictures held vital clues that could have helped it crack the case. All the five pictures are of Arushi. So, who erased the other pictures, and why? The CBI has sent the digital camera to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in Hyderabad to retrieve the pictures and is hoping against hope that something comes up.

The CBI sleuths, however, have a theory.

They have concluded that the photography session at the Talwar home had started approximately around 10 pm on May 15.

That's because one of the pictures has a wall clock in the background showing the time of the day as 10.10 pm. Another picture has grabbed a woman's leg, as she sat on a bed. This is where the CBI's luck runs out although the sleuths feel there could be two possible motives behind the deletion of the pictures.

Since the photography session started after dinner, the CBI assumes that the deleted pictures would have expectedly shown the Talwar couple in night clothes. Going by the probabilities, the Talwar couple would have been wearing the same night clothes when they discovered Aarushi's body.

Incidentally, the CBI has repeatedly questioned the couple about the clothes they were wearing that night but to date, the Talwars say they don't remember what they were wearing.

The CBI has always suspected that the couple have destroyed their night clothes to avoid detection. Since the CBI has the technology to pick up blood stains from clothes even if they are dry-cleaned, the presence of the night clothes would have provided vital clues.

The other motive behind the pictures being selectively erased could be that the pictures would have established the presence of other "persons" besides the Talwar's couple and the two victims. That is, if they were all present at the crime scene and came during the night. Had this been the case, it would have laid waste the Talwar couple's claim that nobody had visited them at night.

The CBI believes that the pictures could not have been accidentally deleted. Neither were they deleted because the picture quality wasn't good - something which everybody does with a digital camera. The sleuths say it is not possible that the quality of the deleted pictures was bad and only the quality of Aarushi's pictures was good, and that's why they were not deleted. Moreover, a digital camera has a huge storage capacity and only 23 pictures were clicked. So, there was no hurry to delete those which were "bad'. Another question that nags the CBI is: why Aarushi's pictures were not removed, as has been the case with the victims' mobile phones that are still untraceable.

The CBI believes the cellphones may have been destroyed.

The CBI says the reason why the camera was not destroyed because it was delivered by a courier, which would have been found out easily. A missing camera would have raised more suspicion.

The CBI is also trying to establish the time pictures were erased, which is key to establishing a motive behind the deletion. If the pictures were deleted before Aarushi was murdered, (she was found dead on May 16 at around 1.30 am) and discovery of Hemraj's body (found dead on May 17), it would go in favour of the family, say a CBI official. But the family would need to do some serious explaining if it was to the contrary, the official adds. If the photos were deleted after the discovery of Hemraj's body (found dead on May 17), it would almost be certain that the pictures were erased deliberately.

The question that really baffles the investigators is that, if Aarushi's was a pre-mediated murder and required meticulous planning, why would the family have a photography session? This is where the accidental murder theory gains currency.

Aarushi's parents Dr Rajesh Talwar and Dr Nupur

Dad gifted her a camera that night
She took photos, posed for some
Photos were deleted selectively
Photos 13, 15, 20, 22 & 23 were not
These have only Aarushi in frame
Who did the other 18 photos have?

Reports on Nupur Talwar's arrest are speculative: CBI

New Delhi:  The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday termed as "speculative" reports that slain teenager Aarushi Talwar's dentist mother Nupur Talwar could be arrested, saying there was "no basis to this as of now."

"A section of the media has reported that Nupur Talwar's arrest is imminent. This has no basis as of now. It is speculative. Investigations are on," said CBI joint director Arun Kumar, who is heading the probe into the sensational double murder.

Nupur was subjected to a lie detector test on Friday and to a psychological test on June 7.

Krishna's fingerprints in Arushi's bathroom
Author: Anshuman G Dutta Date: 17 Jun 2008

The investigating agency will also quiz the UP police officials who probed the double murder case

THE CBI has found Krishna's fingerprints in Arushi's bathroom. According to the sources, the agency has found some vital clues in, which will help it to soon resolve the twin murder mystery in Noida.

Sources said that the agency is looking for another unidentified person, who may have been involved in the case and has sent a team outside Delhi to arrest him.

The CBI is planning to question UP cops, who had earlier investigated the case, to unravel the murder mystery, said senior CBI officials. After taking the charge of probe, the CBI questioned almost everyone even remotely related to the case.

Though sources denied to name any official from the Noida police, but hinted for the former Special Superintendent of Police (SSP) Satheesh Ganesh and investigating officer inspector Anil Samania who will be questioned. For now, Satheesh Ganesh has been transferred to Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) Agra while Anil Samania is posted as circle officer at Sector 20 police station. "All those who were in the investigating team could provide some vital leads regarding the murder weapon and the motive of the murder," said an officer.

No trace

According to sources, it is far from finding the weapon used in the murders. Besides, the motive behind the crime is also not clear so far. "We have almost re-created the crime scene and the sequence of incident on the night of the murder. But we still don't have the murder weapon and motive of the crime to crack the case," said an officer.

Costly miss

The two missing links could prove too costly for the agency, trying to get some information from the Noida police, which have already been accused of botching up the case. "Noida cops can reveal a thing or two," said an  officer. He denied to call it 'interrogation' and preferred to use 'sharing of information' related to the case.

In a related development CBI's special director ML Sharma accepted that almost 90% of the evidence were mishandled by the Noida police which has convoluted the case. "The crime scene was not investigated properly by the Noida police," said Sharma while inaugurating a four-day long course on crime scene and evidence management at the CBI academy.

It is no surprise to find Krishna's finger prints in Aarushi's Room n Bath room.. as per Police report itself.. he is the one who cleaned the room n put her bed on Neighbor's terrace...

In court how CBI can prove on the basis of the finger prints that Krishna is the culprit.. because these prints obtained after so many days of the incidence. ConfusedConfused

At this stage the C.B.I. is just posturing. These folks are not going to find anything since the whole crime scene has been tampered with by just about everyone. The Noida and the U.P. police should be fired and made to forfeit their 401K and other retirement funds for their total incompetence in the Aarushi Hemraj murders and the Nithari case.

The C.B.I. should simply stop all investigation effective immediately, since it now appears that this organization has turned to mere harassment of just about everyone. I really think that they are totally out of line with all the illegal stunts that they are pulling. The Aarushi Hemraj murder has become a Cold Case with no hope of a solution in sight. Stop wasting the tax payer's money for crying out loud and go solve the new case involving the wife of the MLA from Karnataka instead Mr. Arun Kumar!!
