Website coding help

Hi, I'm gonna make a new layout for my site soon, but I need some help with a code. For the links in the navigation bar I want to use images, but when you hover over the link/image I want it to change to another image.

Basically, I'm going to make the images for the links but the text will be in 2 different colours, so I want the hover to be a different colour from the active link. Hope you get what I mean😛 Soz, I ain't that good at explaining. If you need more explanation or an example just let me know. But plz help!
