Chapter 7 "Rain"
"L voila monsieur" said the taxi driver as he stopped the car.
"Sorry Sir…I meant here you go…Mont Royal…just walk up a bit"
Milind paid the taxi driver and before the guy could give him back his change, he got out of the car. He needed to forget everything that just happened. He needed to forget that he had just seen her. He needed to forget that he had seen her yet again with someone else. In all, he just needed to forget her, for once and all. But that he knew that was unlikely to happen. His heart simply refuses to listen. It was still in denial with him.
Her memories lived in him. Even if he wanted to let go of her memories, he just couldn't. How could he forget all those moments he had spent with her, all those happiness that they once shared together? She was the best and worst thing that had happen to him. And he cursed himself for loving her that much.
No matter how much he tried to forget the earlier events, he simply couldn't. All he remembered was her in someone's arms. He didn't like it before and he didn't like it now. He hated her, but seeing her in someone else's arms just didn't feel right, it never did.
Sitting on the bench, he looked at the city, her city. He had a beautiful view from up there, but it didn't feel beautiful. Even in the dark night, the entire city was glowing. It was only him and his heart that felt left out from the glow. This is what she had done to him. Ever since that day, he was never able to enjoy anything. What was the point…when the one person that meant the world to you wasn't there with you anymore?
Taking out his wallet, he looked at her picture, a picture she had once given to him. He never had the heart to take it out from there; it always felt like it belonged there, it was its right place. She was his and she betrayed him.
Staring up at the sky, he questioned God, and his destiny. Why did HE bring her in his life, if he was never to have her? Why did HE make him love her so much, if it was never to be returned? Why did HE bring her back in his life, if it was only to hurt more? As he kept questioning God, he felt small drops of rain on him and it didn't take much time before it started to rain heavily.
Prachi was half her way to Mont Royal when it started to rain, but she just didn't care. She needed to go there. She didn't care if rained heavily or not but she just had to be there as if her life depended on it. It was like some something was pulling her towards the place.
Parking her car, she walked under the rain getting fully soaked. As she walked to her favorite place, she saw someone sitting on the bench. It was only when she took a few more steps that she suddenly felt something inside. She stopped herself and watched the person attentively. Her heart suddenly stopped when she figured out who the person is. It was him, Milind, her Milind was here, a few steps away from her. Now she understood why she had to come. Even if destiny had separated them, their bond was still strong.
After a while as the rain was gradually decreasing, she stood there, watching him from distance. She didn't know what to do. Would she tell him the truth, but then again, he hadn't listen to her before, why would he now. What if he would just behave as before, she couldn't bare it a second time?
Not having enough courage in her, she decided to leave, but at her surprise, her legs refused to move. Not knowing exactly why and how…but she just walked up to him and called out his name in a soft whisper "Milind" and when he looked at her, unlike before, she hadn't seen the hate in his eyes. They were full of pain and hurt. Her heart ached at seeing him at that condition, especially when none of them were at fault. Their fate had played a cruel game with them.
He looked at her, as water was dripping from his hair. His vision was blurry, but he knew that voice. He stared at her for a while and then turned around. She couldn't be here, it was impossible. She was possibly with her new found friend. This was just another of his imaginations. Turning his head away from her, he looked down at the picture in his hands.
Prachi didn't understand him. She was waiting for a reaction from him, but he acted as if she wasn't there. She didn't know why but she walked in front of him and kneeled down at his level and once again softly whispered his name "Milind"
He looked at her and then closed his eyes. She wasn't here. It was only when she heard him whisper to himself "You arr not here" that she understood him. He thought he was imagining her. Unknowingly a smile formed at her lips, she was still in his thoughts.
Just like he thought she was his imagination, she thought she was dreaming. She couldn't believe that she was actually this close to him.
Taking a huge risk on her part, she slowly cupped his face in her hands. It was only after that he opened his eyes. He placed his hands on top of hers and said "Why Prachi…Why did you do it…Main tumse bohut pyar karti hoon…Kyun Prachi…kyun"
She didn't know what to say. She remained silent, and slowly pulled out her hands from his. They just kept staring at each other with only love in their eyes. She was about to leave when he suddenly caught hold of her hand and pulled her into an embrace.
In each others arms, they were in a different world. Nothing mattered anymore. Whether it was a dream or a simple imagination, they would live it fully. How many years had they waited to have each other this close?
Milind held her tight in his arms, as if she was going to run away. He didn't want her to loose her once again. He wanted to stay like this forever. Pause the moment forever. And Prachi in return held his strong body against hers. She needed to feel him against her. It had been so long.
They didn't know how long they had stayed liked that. Under the rain, in each others arms, their hearts were finally at peace, even if it was for the moment.
Much later, they broke apart from each other when they saw a light coming towards them from far. And it didn't take the car time to reach them. It parked in front of them and then Angad came out with an umbrella.
"Prachi…what are you doing here in this rain…thank god that your fine…you know how worried aunty was…now come with me" he said and pulled her into the car. Only when he turned around, he saw Milind standing there as well.
"Milind…what are you doing here…"
He didn't answer him and looked puzzled himself. Since it started to rain heavily once again Angad said "Chalo…let me drop you too…" But Milind just stood there rooted not knowing exactly what was going on. Not saying anything, he just stared at him.
Seeing Milind not responding, Angad continued "Okay listen…I'll call a cab for you…have to bring Prachi home before she gets sick…" and gave him the umbrella and returned in the car.
Still soaking under the rain, he watched them leave with the car. It was only when he saw the car disappear that he came to his senses. Prachi was actually here, it wasn't his imagination. She was here in his arms.
