Unless you know them personally, you are second guessing. Smile

lol. if u find the drivel these celebs pass off as intelligence, no problem. what can anyone say? LOL Read my post carefully. I haven't passed any judgement on their intelligence, or lack of thereof! Nor have I endorsed what they have said. Smile

as for the rest of that, good. now we are getting somewhere.Tongue at least i am talking about men like me, friends and company that i know quite well, not trying to exterpolate what men in general think by putting out celeb-speak. implicit in all this of course is that that's my perception, much the same as a lot of other stuff is urs or anyone else's. very basic- shldnt even have to tell anyone that. Wink At no point have I said that celeb-speak is the gospel truth. I don't care what celebs say. I merely questioned your broad condemnation of people who don't toe the same line as yours. You have been making yourself clearer in subsequent posts and you were quite specific in this post by saying " men like me, friends and company that i know quite well". I accept the validity of this argument.

btw, who r u speaking for? someone else?WinkLOL why then assume that i am speaking for anyone else?Tongue

You made the generalisations. I didn't! All I have been doing is questioning your line of argument. WinkLOL

and here's a good reason why guys go for the good looking ones, as if they ever needed the motivation. LOL at least u see what u're getting. with the rest of them, there's no saying. all u know for sure is u're buying a beat up car but cant be sure if she dont turn out a real lemon that troubles u a lot and that u cant even park at the good-looking entrance WinkLOL

like they say, a bird in hand is worth two in the bush. go for the sure bet- the looker. Wink

arent we going too far with characterizing what was there as condemnation? Confusedas for generalizations, arent the folks who take what celebs have to say and try to exterpolate it to other guys, doing the generalization first?Wink werent u generalizing when u were joining in the laughter surrounding pretty gals making dumb statements?Wink are all pretty gals dumb? or all handome guys stupid? one didnt see the same consistent concern for generalizations back thenWinkWinkWink

and since u bring all this up, sorry if one mistook all the questioning and other remarks as spamming.Smile

lol. simple thing. u go for the beat-up looking version if u dont have the wares to get the fancy model. WinkLOL

it's also like this- if u know u cant get the prettiest thing u want, then u get into the mode of compromising. u're not going to be too turned on anyway, so might as well pick someone who'll have a good attitude cleaning up the house, making the beds and fixing the meals. that's when apne dil ko maar kar one goes for the shabbier version. Tongue LOL

lol...nvmnd, one can talk while having dinner too. why waste "quality time" on talkingTongue. btw if conversation is all you gonna have with stars who seem to be drool worthy to most , then SRK may not be the best choice. have seen him piss off a lot of ppl with his sick brand of deprecating humor on award shows and inteviews. Infact heard him mention somewhere before, about being  self certfied insecure person.  Aur Shiney main kya kameen hain bhala? Wink

I think it's you who missed the whole point here.  SRK is a star because they liked him...not the other way around....and they like him despite his average looks.

No , SRK became likebale after enacting Rahul and Raj type roles. His earlier movies did not make him a star. big difference.

LOLLOL average people did not know him before he entered movies.  He became a star when they saw him and liked him.  They made him a star

Ppl did not like him until after DDLJ. Acting is like any other profession, talent in what one is required to do is needed to get to the top and rest is business as usual, but the one with average looks has to work harder and longer to get noticed in the first place..

May be by you but you can't speak on every one else's behalf.  They still made SRK a bigger star than Hritik.  They still made Rani a bigger star than Aish.  Least you can do is run their intelligence down.

I think you are missing the whole crux of the debate .  It will always be about Looks first.  Hrithik became an overnight star and sensation after KNPH. WinkSRK had to prove himself to the masses until DDLJ happened to him. TongueDebate is not about who wins the race but why looks are prefered in the first instance. It is what it is, I mean what folks prefer at first visual contact, nothing bad about it. How is Rani bigger star than Ash when Ash is the highest paid female star in bollywood and is internationaly famous.Tongue

No m'am.  The real question is why he is still not looking at others when he has so many of them throwing themselves at him...not the one you raised here.

Ok., the real question might be than , about his gender prefrence if  he is not looking at gals.LOL I mean a true hot blooded guy would at least look at other girls, don't you think so.? Wink

Again, your camp is resorting to second guessing here.  Go back to the FACTS that were pointed out a page ago.

No second guessing there G. It is a fact that celeb types would not look twice at, let alone marry the likes of GK. I am saying it like it is and your argument is based on SRK marrying GK when he wasn't famous.

Again, a speculation on your part...a second guess.  We are talking about a celebrity superstar here.  We all know what kind of an image the stars have.  SRK is still very much commited to his wife and never had any extra-marital affairs as far as we know.  This should tell you that looks may capture one's eyes but its the personlaity that captures one's heartSmile

Don't know what attitude or personality of hers in your astute estimation you are refering to,when her public appearances put her in the worst dressed list every time she attends these functions. ..remember her hideous getup on the last filmfare award nite.   she was just a star wife until recently when he made her producer of his company.

He may still be married to her , but I wouldn't vouch for his unalterable fidelity.

Did you read my posts on this thread?  If you did, you'll know what I have been saying all along.  Looks are like a marketing tool. Great to get an entry.  Rest depends on your attitude, personality and other stuff.  Even you said in your first post that it's the passion that keeps things going later.  Are you doing a 180 turn here?  If yes, then wonder whyWinkLOL

I did say looks will always have upper hand when all else is equal , didn't I? Are we resorting to twisting stuff to suit one's argument? and what's up with the snide remark at the end? If you know , than why wonder or ask? No need for that kind of attitude or comment with a fellow debator

...and that's how this debate started.  The thread opener wanted to know why people do not focus on attitude when it is also important.Smile

In the competitive world we live in, where one gets only one chance to make the first impression, looks count more so when it comes to selecting a life partner. If one is competing with someone who has better looks , than they better be prepared to accept that. We are wired to appreciate beauty. It is as simple as that. Circumstances may make us settle for second, third or only choice available and that is ok too.

The thread opener kinda mentioned this fact in her question - why people prefer looks over attitude.  Smile

 Peace.
