A whole lot of Abhishek

8/30/2008 1:50:31 PM

Its been over a year since this gorgeous couple tied the knot and if Jr. Bachchan is to be belived the two still can't seem to have enough of each other, so much so that even the unforgettable tour is just an excuse to spend quality time together.

When he is not romancing his wife, Aby baby is busy giving the finishing touches to his upcoming fantasy film 'Drona', where the lissome Priyanka Chopra plays his bodyguard and Abhishek for one is all for Piggy chops packing in the punches.

'Drona' is the much awaited fantasy action adventure film starring Abhishek Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Jaya Bachchan, and Kay Kay Menon. It has been described as a Harry Potter meets Indiana Jones movie, but with an original story. 'Drona' will display hundreds of top notch special effects shots that were worked on by EyeQube headed by Charles Darby and David Bush.

We've seen Amitabh play his father in many films but in his next release, 'Dilli 6' catch the Amitabh Bachchan playing grandfather to Abhishek.

Dilli 6 is based on Mehra's growing up years in Chandni Chowk area of Old Delhi. The film will be Mehra's third directorial venture after the immensely successful Rang De Basanti, which had been selected as India's official entry to the Oscars and critically acclaimed Aks.

Amitabh Bachchan was just basking in the success of his 'Unforgettable tour' which had a tremendous response worldwide. Then came this offer. He is to appear on an edition tailored for men.

Big B mentions this at blog, bigadda.com. He says, "L'Official, the fashion and design magazine starts an issue for men. They want to launch the issue with me on the cover. I cannot understand this, but here I am at call. We shoot for the next two days in designer settings and ambiance."

Amitabh Bachchan seems to be embarrassed at this proposal. He feels awkward on being a fashion trendsetter at the age of 66. "I am awkward at their choice of subject. But they are happy and content. I really have no business to be on a design and fashion magazine. They will fit me into exotic couture garments and people of still camera renown shall shoot me from various angles at various locations," he says.

He is all humility when he quips," One is not supposed to be doing this at age 66 !! I am self conscious and embarrassed. But… I do it for a friend."

Amitabh Bachchan copies Abhishek!
by Rajiv Dutta

< =text/>

You guys heard it here first and that too straight from the horse's mouth.

Remember the famous Amitabh number Khaike Paan Banaras ...? Big B reveals that the inspiration for his dance steps came from son Abhishek's dance moves. "Abhishek was with me on the sets and he was very tall for his age and he was generally grooving to the song and I just copied it," says Amitabh. And guess what Abhishek said to that? "Now it's out in the open, even Amitabh Bachchan copies Abhishek." Quite a revelation!

Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan have been signed to re-create the magic of Amitabh and Jaya's yesteryears blockbuster Abhimaan. The film by Hrishikesh Mukherjee is a golden piece and director Rajeev Menon is keen to remake the classic. Ash-Abhi together sizzled in Guru and Rajeev Menon, director of Sapnay (Minsaara Kanavu) and Kandukondain Kandukondain has full confidence on this married couple.

The film has been tentatively titled Dhun and like the earlier one it will also be based on music. It was Rajeev's long time dream to remake the classic blockbuster Abhimaan and finds Ash-Abhi the perfect pair to re-create the magic of Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan on silver screen. The husband-wife duo will start shooting for Menon's film once they are done with Mani Ratnam's Ravana.

Abhimaan still reminds people about its mind-blowing music and the rave performance of Amitabh and Jaya. The film has mesmerized the audience of 80's and Amitabh and Jaya's combination was much appreciated. Time will tell whether Ash and Abhi would be able to fade away the memories of Jaya and Amitabh and set a new record.

'This is one of Big B's best performances'
5 Sep 2008, 0000 hrs IST, JYOTHI PRABHAKAR ,TNN
There was certainly nothing Faltu about the film, considering it got the National Award for best film in the category of family welfare.

And Planman Motion Pictures' Arindam Chaudhari, the producer of the film, couldn't be happier. "I went to receive the award on Tuesday," he says, adding that another of their films, Dosar, got a special mention for Bengali actor Prosenjit at the awards.
But why call a film Faltu? "That's because it's about a boy growing up in a village where there are 70-odd families," Arindam narrates.

"And because no one knows where his father is, they call him Faltu, very lovingly. But when he tries to find out about his father, he discovers that that the people who've lovingly helped him grow up, took advantage of his mother, who's mentally unstable. And he doesn't even know whose son he is, because all of them had taken advantage of her. So it's about the dilemma that every human being has a good side and has the other side also."

Another of the hatke films that Arindam's made is The Last Lear . "It's not a dark film, contrary to perception, but it definitely isn't commercial masala . In the film, Mr (Amitabh) Bachchan is playing a Shakespearean stage actor. The film is about his life – he's done Shakespearean plays, and that's why the film is in English – because he's always in his theatre mode, reciting dialogues out of some play or the other. Arjun Rampal plays a film director and tries to seduce Mr Bachchan into the world of cinema, though Mr Bachchan believes that theatre is the best form of acting. But the film is about how Arjun brings him into the world of cinema and then what happens," Arindam explains.

He thinks that the actors' performances in The Last Lear will surprise people. "People think Preity (Zinta) is all dimples and bubbliness, but they'll love her performance. She plays the role of an actor in Arjun's film. Once he manages to bring in Mr Bachchan, there are confrontational scenes between Preity and him," he says. "The reason I got them all is that, while it's not a film for everybody – it's in English – if I'd made this film with anyone else, there wouldn't even be five people in the auditorium. With all of them there, I'm sure people will come in and once they do, they'll love it. If not his best, this is certainly one of Mr Bachchan's three best performances. Now it is up to people to debate whether Black was better or this, but most people might find this one to be Mr Bachchan's best," says Arindam.

So, does Arindam plan to stick to niche cinema, or does he want to venture into more commercial films? "We won't get into potboilers, but definitely into massive commercial cinema, with scripts that are different," he explains. " Chak De, Lagaan, Taare Zameen Par are all from the genre we're into, but they all had mass appeal. I'm sure we'll find such scripts and get into such films soon. There are better people making commercial masala and romance. Farah Khan is good at potboilers, and you can't beat Yash Chopra at romantic films even today. Bachna Ae Haseeno did everything one can do in that category. So when other people can make it better, why try that genre?" he says.

And what are his upcoming projects? "There are about four to five films in pre-production stage, and all very sensitive and sensible films," Arindam says. "Most of them will now have a larger market. The first of them is one called I'm 24, and it's got Ranvir Shorey in it. It's going to be a good film in terms of reach – everybody should be interested in it. It's a comedy, a light-hearted romantic comedy, so I think everyone will love it."
