but that also depends on why someone comes to VL. let's take DM for example. if we end up making friends with everyone, who's left to play the game with? in fact, best thing imo is to not make VL friends in such forums so that one has the entire field to work with. cant be getting tied down in raksa bandhan kind of relationshipsπ
Kya CB, paani pher diya.. I am talking Adonis and you are in august Rakshabandhan...π
No I don't think one can make friends with everyone in vl or rl.. debating is like dancing , can't be dancing with everyone on the floor. you pick the one you can debate with or they pick you. π
I agreed on your observations but after reading this ...it's not about specific topics people choose to form an opinion...it's about opinions irrespective of topics people tend to choose. Orelse don't get me started on probabilities...would be a cake walk to term most here as egoistics, perv..s..blah blah blah and what not ππ and I won't say probability..but with 100% asurity can place a verdictπππ Anyways it's not about IF but in general...π

i think the topics do show interest. it's hard to find, for example, toddlers who'd be interested in marital topics. on the other hand, the opinions may or may not mean real-held deep-rooted opinions- VL allows us to play devil's advocate more than we might otherwise. which leaves us pretty much with the style, with how people convey their ideas, as maybe the only way we can cut through all the fog and make assessments. more so because as people have noted, we cant even necessarily believe what they tell us about themselves.
in a way i agree with LH. resumes, credentials, virtual relationships can also get very suffocating and boring. at least in VL, it's more interesting to have just a debate on merits, and not give it to someone just because they are the CEO instead of the mailman.π

aur karna bhee naheen chahiyeπ nothing like having some opponents to keep one motivated and on the righteous pathπ

You will be surprised to see some great views on topics you mentioned coming from people you are doing great, as supposed to issue topic mentions. Some profound views from folks who never got in love/divorced/married etc etc..but can understand the depth of it.
There are topics that people are least interest for the heck of seeking public interest they do share views.Playing devil's adv not necessarily imply that a person is going thru any probabilty of being xyzly frustrated. Some people just have passion towards DM or debates and can talk from both sides, they shouldn't be mis judged or sterotyped based on choice of topic, hope you know what I mean.
Still hold my ground on judging the real personality based responses factoring out type of topics in particular.Very easy and so far ..apart from one exception it holds true.

yaar, for the most part at least i am not too much into judging people in VL. just cant be bothered doing so. doesnt serve any purpose for me. that said, the topics that one writes about does provide one indication of where someone's current interests might lie, like hobbies. there are always exceptions but we cant always try to bail out by hanging our hat on exceptions because it's there with almost every real situation in life. it's also of course silly to take just one indication and build it into a generalization. but our interests/ hobbies/ topics do provide one clue imo, big or small, that taken together with other clues can get us closer to understanding folks in VL. not much different from how it is in RL. cant get too myopic with it, but it is one piece of a bigger puzzleπ

π I know, one piece of puzzle.
Well, drawing inferences on choice of topics and throwing out a spoofy blanket remark, isn't judging? π nevermind I understanding what you meanπ

nope. that's "virtual profiling"π
i personally feel that it's human nature to consciously or unconsciously judge people. we may not be vocal about our judgments but the impressions we carry of others in our minds are, at some level, based on the judgments we formed about them.
that said; i disagree with CB that writing styles give ones personality away. i think we established in the very beginning that people here could be what they r not in personal life. u may find the most shy person in rl to be very open and most timid person in rl to be very head strong in vl. when one is not facing the actual real person in felsh and blood, one tends to get over some of their inhibitions while debating/interacting with them. some of us may not like confrontations in rl but feel like having the last word in vl...no matter whatπ
the reverse is also true. we have had many members comment on how they r really in to debates in rl but couldn't be bothered much in vl. they would rather just post their views and get outta there w/o getting into any confrontations.
in a nut shell, some fairly sweet people cld be overly sarcastic in vl and some truly evil people cld be all lovey dovey super extra nice in vl. can't really form an opinion on someone by the way they write their posts...leave alone the ideas they portray here.π
therefore, i feel, it is very hard making astute judgment about people going by their posts. one can see the foot prints in their posts and one can identify the discripancies in what they claimed in one point of time vs some other as people do have a tendency to offer lot of personal info, knowingly or unknowingly, here on the forums.
i feel we all know the pros and cons of letting our guard down or trusting a vl person. we all know some can lie to decieve others. at the same time, some can ridicule others' achievements even when they have merit. while posting or chatting or forming friendships on forums, we all shd be mindful of the dangers lurking out on the net. if things don't turn out the way we planned, we shd not make a bigger fool outta ourselves by going after the objects of our fascination and trashing them left and rightπ
as long as we pay attention to the virtual line of command and not take any pangas with the mods and the viewbies and various other dev team members, we shd be okayπ rest of the folks.....we can be an equal opportunity butt kickers with themπ sab sey dosti kiya toh this place would be dead. ghoda ghaas sey dosti kareyga toh khayega kya......goes for ghodis tooπ...don't want all the ghodas on dm coming after me with chaku and chhuri and dandas π

btw drop that guard and you may meet a good friend.π
true. as long as one drops it at their own riskπ baad mein yeh sun-na naa miley ki tum kitney dhokeybaaz nikley zalim...ya phir kaisi zehreeli nagin hai...mujhey dass gayee aur dakaar tak naheen leeπ

no it's not.π i've used two important qualifications: "probably" and "spoof". makes it milder than even saying that people lie about themselves in VL or embellish their resumes/ AVs. so if we want to hang judgemental on someone, let's go find those examples firstπ
