In 2007, Pakistan played only 8 test matches. We won only 1 and lost 4 and drew 3. To put it another way, we played 3 test series and lost ALL three of them. A pretty dismal performance. We lost away series in SAF 1-2, home series 0-1 and an away series in India 0-1.

Below we look at the batting and bowling stats for Pakistani players in Tests for 2007.

Test Batting Stats –
Only three batsmen carried the burden of the batting on their shoulders....Misbah, Younis and Yousaf to some extent. Every other "specialist" batsman was a huge disappointment. Sami had HIGHER batting average than Faisal Iqbal and Mohammad Hafeez!!!
Captaincy burden may have impacted Malik's performance with the bat....but hopefully he'll improve next year.
Selectors kept playing musical chair with the openers. It seems like Salman Butt has settled down but we are STILL looking for his partner.

Test Bowling Stats – Bulk of the bowling was done by Kaneria (the work horse). He bowled 63 overs per match and was rightfully the highest wicket taker of the year with 37 wickets. Shoaib played in 4 test matches and bowled only 27 overs per test (surprise, surprise!).
No other bowler played in all 8 test matches. All most all the bowlers were injured at one time or the other. Asif and Akhtar were 2nd and 3rd highest wicket taker considering they played in only 5 and 4 tests respectively.
Yasir Arafat and Sohail Tanveer looked very promising as they made their test debuts in India. Hope they improve with the passage of time!
Sami.....what can I say?? Just like last few years, he bowling was much better than the final stats. Only if the chances were held off of his bowling!!!

Kamran Akmal held 25 catches and made 2 stumpings in 8 tests...while dropping countless catches. He had a horrible year behind the stump and surprisingly still holds his place in the team.

Here are the…..Test Stats for 2006

ODI's: We played only 21 ODIs (thank God!). We won 8, lost 12 with one ODI vs SAF did not produce a result.

I wish all of us can forget the early World Cup exit after losing to Ireland. If that shock was not big enough, Pak coach Bob Woolmer died the same night in the team hotel. Just before the World Cup, Pak lost a 5 match series 1-3 in South Africa.
Only bright spot of the year was a 2-1 series win vs Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi.

Unfortunately two ODI in Scottland were completely washed out - one vs Scottland other vs India.

Then we lost two 5-match series to SAF (home) and Ind (away) with a identical margin of 2-3. So, basically we lost 3 bilateral series and won only 1.

Below are the ODI bowling and batting stats for 2007.

ODI Batting Stats – Yousaf, Malik and Younis were the only three batsmen who scored more than 500 runs. Salman Butt performed pretty well in the 10 ODIs that he selected in. He was 2nd highest in batting averages. Afridi, Musbah and Imran did reasonably well but they could have done much better. Imran scored one big 100 vs Zim in a meaningless WC match.
But that WC match saw an end to the brilliant career of one of the best Pak ODI batsman - Inzimam!

Just like in test matches, Sami's batting average was better than Yasir Hameed & Hafeez.

ODI Bowling Stats – Rao was surprisingly the highest wicket taker in the ODIs this year. He also had the 2nd highest best EconRate after Afridi. Afridi kept up his form with the ball in ODIs this year also. His EconRate was the best among all Pak bowlers. Akhtar got 11 wickets in 5 ODI. Only if he was fit and was not banned!!!
Sohail Tanveer was reasonably well in his debut year by taking 11 wickets in 8 ODIs with an EconRate of 4.99. Malik got only 8 wickets in 21 matches with not so reat EconRate of 5.64. Two big names Rana and Razzaq performed well below par..hence lost their place in the team.

Kamran held 18 catches and made 4 stumpings in 20 ODIs while Sarfraz held 2 catches in 1 ODI in which he looked pretty good - even better than Kamran who kept dropping crucial catches at crucial times.

Here are the… ODI Stats for 2006

Twenty20:Wow!!! What a year? Brilliant performance in the 1st ever WC and a huge heart breaker of a final.....but we did not roll over and play dead like we did 1999 ODI WC final! We fought till the end in this final.
We started the year with a loss in one-off T20 match in SAF and ended the year with a loss in the all important final. In between, we were unstoppable. Played 10 T20 matches, won 7, lost 2 and tied 1. Performance in T20 matches eased the pain of miserable records in Tests and ODIs to some extent.

Below we look at the batting and bowling stats for Pakistani players in T20 for 2007.

T20 Batting Stats – If it was not for T20 WC, we would not have rediscovered Misbah. After being ignored for the longest time since making his debut, selectors picked him for T20 WC and the rest is history. Scored 2nd highest runs with best average, and 3rd best S/R among the players scoring 100 or more runs. Misbah, along with Imran Nazir and Malik were only 3 batsmen crossing 200 runs mark. Imran's S/R was 150 for his 200+ runs. Too bad, he could not carry his T20 form into ODIs and Test matches. Afridi was MOS in the T20 WC. He did not light up the fields with his batting but still scored 130 runs with a S/R of 160.49. Salman But on the other hand was totally out of sorts and had the lowest S/R 81.06 among the players who crossed 100 runs in T20 this year.

T20 Bowling Stats – Umar Gul, Asif and Afridi were the stars of the bowling with 13, 10 and 14 wickets respectively. While Asif came under the stick during the end-overs, Umar Gul had an amazing economy rate of 5.28! While these three were the pick of the bowlers, Sohail Tanveer and Hafeez also did reasonably well as 4th and 5th bowler. It was our bowling that took us to the final of the T20...only for our batting to spoil the ultimate prize!
