Turning point
A worthwhile struggle
That's how Gaurav Chanana terms his move to become an actor
Iwas living a carefree life in Delhi before I came to the city. I went to Venkateswara College and got into dramatics by accident. I was on the verge of making a portfolio when I got selected, after a couple of audition rounds for an ad for Brooklyn chewing gum. I just got lucky, I guess.
My first shot was for the same ad film. It was quite short in duration though, as it lasted for only fifteen seconds. But it gave me such a major thrill that I realised that I wanted to do more of it and it got me completely motivated. I wasn't nervous or anything but I was very excited all the while. It was a fabulous commercial and people started to recognise me.
All this happened around six years back. I finally decided to move to Mumbai to chart a career in the glamour industry. My parents were quite apprehensive. They are both bankers and I was quite good at academics, so there was some concern initially. Upon coming here, began the usual struggle of going to model co-ordinators, appearing for auditions and so on. But it was quite worth it as it made me value whatever I have today.
Fortunately, I bagged a great role in Sanjivani, A medical boon and played Dr Rahul on the show. After that I never had to look back ever. Slowly, other shows also came my way and I was able to make an impact on the audience.
