Thanksgiving, or Thanksgiving Day, is a traditional North American holiday to give thanks at the conclusion of the harvest season. Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States and on the second Monday of October in Canada.

The earliest Thanksgiving events were held in the British Colonies, at present day Berkeley Plantation in Virginia in 1619 and at Plymouth in present day Massachusetts in 1620.

In November, 2007, President George W. Bush will give a Thanksgiving address at Berkeley Plantation in Charles City County, Virginia.

In the United States, Thanksgiving is a four day weekend which usually marks a pause in school and college calendars. Many workers (78% in 2007) are given both Thanksgiving and the day after as paid holidays.

Thanksgiving meals are traditionally family events where certain kinds of food are served. First and foremost, turkey is the featured item in most Thanksgiving feasts (so much so that Thanksgiving is sometimes facetiously referred to as "Turkey Day"). Stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, corn, turnips, rolls, pecan pie, and pumpkin pie are commonly associated with Thanksgiving dinner. Often guests bring food items or help with cooking in the kitchen as part of a communal meal.

The Thanksgiving holiday was established as a national day of giving thanks and praise to God. The religious heritage of Thanksgiving continues in the tradition of saying grace at the beginning of the Thanksgiving holiday dinner.

The Thanksgiving season is also a time of generosity. People contribute food to annual Thanksgiving food drives and donate to charities.

The first official Thanksgiving Proclamation made in America was issued by the Continental Congress in 1777. Six national Proclamations of Thanksgiving were issued in the first thirty years after the founding of the United States of America as an independent federation of States. President George Washington issued two, President John Adams issued two, President Thomas Jefferson made none and President James Madison issued two. After 1815 there were no more Thanksgiving Proclamations until the Presidency of Lincoln, who made two during the Civil War.

President Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a Federal holiday as a "prayerful day of Thanksgiving" on the last Thursday in November. Since then every U.S. President has always made an official Thanksgiving Proclamation on behalf of the nation. President Franklin D. Roosevelt set the date for Thanksgiving to the fourth Thursday of November in 1939 (approved by Congress in 1941).

Ardhangani: Kangana and Priyam share some romantic scenes whilst Sushmita is furious to see this and prays to God that this marriage breaks. Meanwhile a drunk Partho is stopped by his mother [Masi] from confessing his love to Kangana. Masi tells Kangana about Partho's obsession and pleads her to act rude and arrogant in front of him. Kangana does so and the whole scene is witnessed by Priyam who reconsiders his decision to marry Kangana. Raktima instigates Partho to fight for his love.

Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki: Om finds out the truth about his tablets. Parvati promises to protect Om, whilst Rishika plans to go abroad with her family. Om is continuing to have flasbacks concerning parvati and shruti instigated by finding out Garima is in Love. Garima and Adi's misunderstanding grown. Methali is confused about her feelings for Adi. Rishika hysterically calls Rishabh concerning Garima.

Choonna Hai Aasman: Shaheen who pretended to be the blind girl is really a terrorist and Tanvi enters the village as Uma, Abhimaniyu a.k.a. Mr. Mishras sister. Shaheen blackmails Mr. Singh that Chotu/ Nane will be killed next. Sameera finds a clue against Shaheen and tells the HAWKS to be careful around Shaheen. Shaheen tells her captain that she wants to kill Indians but on thier day, meaning Diwali.

Dill Mill Gaye: Harsh's grandfather has a heart attack and receives emergency treatment, but afterwards he slips into a coma. It is discovered by Keerthi that one of the interns has made a mistake. Armaan tells Atul he saw Rids with the propanol and Keerthi overhears this. Rids is accused and the board suspends her.

Kasauti Zindagi Ki: Prerna fails to be able to show the family the truth about Vardaan. Saniya and Vardaan continue to meet. Rishabh speaks some harsh truth concerning Prerna and Anuraug. Anuraug lashes out from being constantly blamed. Anuraug is suspicious about Rishabh and his dealing. Whilst meeting Saniya Vardaan is injured and saniya is raped by her another person.

Teen Bahuraniyaan: The TB wish each other Happy New Year. Jhanki tries talking to Sameer, but he is badly hurt and Nisha talks to Jhanki instead saying that Sameer is busy and he cant talk and Jhank is hurt. Maya teaches a lesson to the TM asking as to who destroyed the charity and to put the blame of herself, Bhavna tells the whole turth. Maya tries to bring TMs truth infront of the whole family but unsucsessful. Maya thinks to herself all the bad things that TM had done to her and at the end, she is shown with bundles of money.

Nach Baliye 3: Shah Rukh Khan is the guest and brings in great energy and fun in the episode... Pratap Shetty wins the choreographer of the week award for the third time... Next it was the Wildcard episode... All eliminated jodis except Shakti Shivangi perform...

Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi: Tripti dies and an investigation committee comes to the resort. The whole Virani family is being suspected. Tulsi is worried and at first suspects Gautam and then Mihir - due to his weird behaviour.

Kumkum: Kumkum makes Summit meet Antara but he does not believe her. Summit ask Kumkum to not tell the family about Antara and he doesn't want any interruptions in his son's wedding. Further he tells Kumkum to prov that the kid is Dhruv's and Antara's.

Ghar ki Laxmi Betiyaan: Surya n the rest almost see Karan's mom and Laxmi gets them to leave. Gauri n Durga find out abt Karan's truth. Yuvraj proceeds to put everything in Kajri's name but Kshitij delays the process. In a misunderstanding, Kajri accidently slaps a prince she met. She and Rasili plan to trap him like they did to Yuvraj.

Saat Phere: Nahar blames himself for Tara not being able to become a mother again. He promises Brijesh & Tara that this child will be theirs not Saloni and his. Saloni has to break the last Vachan. She does this by pretending to get an abortion done. When she announces it to the family, Nahar comes and slaps her.

A wealthy man requested an old scholar to wean his son away from his bad habits. The scholar took the youth for a stroll through a garden. Stopping suddenly he asked the boy to pull out a tiny plant growing there. The youth held the plant between his thumb and forefinger and pulled it out. The old man then asked him to pull out a slightly bigger plant. The youth pulled hard and the plant came out, roots and all. "Now pull out that one," said the old man pointing to a bush. The boy had to use all his strength to pull it out. "Now take this one out," said the old man, indicating a guava tree. The youth grasped the trunk and tried to pull it out. But it would not budge.

"I – It's impossible," said the boy, panting with the effort. "So it is with bad habits," said the sage. "When they are young it is easy to pull them out but when they take hold they cannot be uprooted."


The session with the old man changed the boy's life.
