Some ppl wer really surprised and impressed by Sohail Tanvir's performance wid the bat..in 20 20 WC final as well as in this 1st ODI...but I wasnt surprised coz I've seen him..(not only him, infact lot many cricketers) in domestic cricket as I keenly follow it..he is more known for his batting skills rather than his bowling skills...he is actually a batting all rounder...he has much better batting stats in his domestic career!I luved his sixes..the 20 20 WC final ones as well as yesterday's!!He has a lot of potential..!! πŸ˜›

FINALLY!!! A win for Pakistan...a much needed one!! πŸ˜›πŸ‘ Good batting by Mohammad Yousuf and a captain's knock from Shoaib Malik..plus, good support from Younis and Misbah....Pakistan played well esp. in bowling...but they wer absolutely poor in fielding deptt..ground fielding as well as catching...all was really bad!! We need to improve it as quickly as possible if we want to win the next matches!!!

i totally agree... mohammad yousaf was undoubtly incredible in this match... Finally we won against SA... but i think pak bowlers shud concentrate on thier bowling... i heard shoaib and asif have signed IPL league... now if all the players will sign indian league than who will be left in our team.. PCB shud bring some gud pace bowlers into the team and do some experiment before we battle against our arch-rival team.. Coz we have so many young talented bowlers in pakistan...😳 they shud get thier chance.. Do u agree nimra?

you r right..Pak bowlers shud concentrate more on their bowling...especially in the extras area....they r giving too many extras...and the fast bowlers are bowling too many no-balls..these dayzz u cannot afford to bowl no-balls as the free hit rule comes into play!I really dont like this rule...it shud b restricted till 20 20 and not in ODI's..And Sohail Tanvir needs to practice his in-swinger and try to learn to control the flow of runs by the opposition team...
When we'll hav Shoaib Akhtar and Asif back, it wud b interesting to see who will b dropped!!wen they'll come, they both wud open the bowling, then Umar Gul wud b the first change bowler..either Sohail or Rao will play then!!

Shoaib Malik,Mohammad Asif,Shoaib Akhter,Mohammad Yousuf and Afridi gonna join IPL...they r joining Indian Premiere League(IPL) and not Indian Cricket League(ICL)..ICL is illegal while IPL is approved by the ICC..so there's no harm in joining IPL...IPL will release these players wen Pakistan team has a series to play...

I agree wid ya...selectors shud start experimenting now....in this home series...so that we have our best team combination for the Indian tour!!πŸ˜›We shud give chance to younger fast bowlers who r doing very very well in domestic cricket...like Anwar Ali,Abdul Rauf,Najaf Shah etc..just like we found Sohail Tanvir...maybe we'll find another good bowler from these new ones!!πŸ˜›Not only pace bowlers,we need new opening batsmen as well!!Our opening is just soo faulty!!we shud giv chance Khurram Manzoor and Khalid Latif...they've been performing brilliantly in the domestic season as well as wid the karachi team and wid Pakistan A-team...almost in every match, they giv u an openeing start of 100 runz...

Mohd Yousuf ton helps Pak beat SA in the second ODI

Back to Section Stories Posted On Sunday, October 21, 2007

Pakistan overcame a scrappy effort in the fielding Saturday to beat South Africa by 25 runs in the second limited-overs international and level the five-match series 1-1. Captain Graeme Smith top-scored with a dogged 65 off 96 balls as South Africa was bowled out for 240 in 49.3 overs after Pakistan made a respectable 265-9 off its 50 overs.

Smith was bowled off a no-ball before he had scored and was thrice dropped before he had completed his half century. Pakistan survived a late onslaught by Albie Morkel (31), who was also dropped on 20, and Shaun Pollock (37) as medium fast Rao Iftikhar ended up with a disciplined career-best figures of 3-43.

Mohammad Yousuf
South Africa lost experienced Herschelle Gibbs and Jacques Kallis for noughts before Smith revived the team's hopes when he added 76 runs with A. B. de Villiers (35) _ who also had a lucky escape when Abdul Rehman dropped a hard one-handed catch at mid-wicket.

Smith was the sixth man to go in the 35th over when Kamran Akmal finally held onto a faint edge off left-arm spinner Rehman. Pakistan players had a horrifying day in the field as they dropped at least five catches with South African captain Graeme Smith being the prime beneficiary.

 Yousuf magic

Earlier, Yousuf (117) hit nine fours in registering his 13th century in one-day internationals off 143 balls but South Africa did well in the late overs to restrict its opponents. Yousuf was dismissed in the 48th over when Morkel knocked back his leg stump as he attempted to pull the medium fast bowler.

Yousuf survived a confident lbw appeal of Morkel when on 64 before he completed his century in the 45th over with a square driven boundary off Jacques Kallis. Pakistan was pegged back after captain Shoaib Malik (56) and Yousuf added 107 runs for the fourth wicket off 115 balls. Malik dominated the century-partnership and thrice hit off-spinner Johan Botha for sixes and then lofted one more straight over Kallis' head.

Charl Langeveldt broke the threatening stand in the 38th over when Malik holed out in the deep in an attempt to clear Justin Kemp at long on. Langeveldt also took a brilliant running catch to dismiss dangerman Shahid Afridi (6), slowing Pakistan's acceleration in the last five overs.

 Rebuilding

Yousuf twice had to rebuild the innings after Malik won his first toss of the series and elected to bat. Pakistan had a disastrous start when both openers fell cheaply inside the first six overs. Akmal, who opened the innings in place of dropped Mohammad

Hafeez, dragged Pollock's fifth delivery of the match back onto his stumps while Imran Nazir mistimed a pull off Makhaya Ntini and offered an easy catch at square leg.

Pakistan's Umar Gul
Yousuf and Younis Khan (32) added 60 off 77 balls but then Yousuf ran out his partner when he declined a quick single after taking a few paces. Pollock conceded just 29 runs off his 10 overs for the wicket of Akmal while Morkel (2-43) Ntini (2-44) and Langeveldt (2-47) did well in restricting Pakistan. The third game of the five-match series will be played at Faisalabad on Oct. 23.

Brief Scores

Pakistan:  265/9 (M Yousuf 117, S Mailk 56; M Ntini 2-44, C Langeveldt 2-47)

South Africa: 240 all out (G Smith 65, S Pollock 37; I Rao 3-43, U Gul 3-59)

Result: Pakistan won by 25 runs
