Blue Eyed Big B!!
Amitabh Bachchan, the Shehanshah of bollywood, has worn different colored lenses for his left and right eyes to make his negative role of a dangerous villain in ' Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag' more effective. It was Ram Gopal Varma's idea that the Big B would look more deadly if his left eye looks brown while the right eye gives a blue hue and the perfectionist Bachchan went along with the idea of the director. Though it was very painful and time consuming at the Bachchan's sixty plus age.
As an insider reveals, ' As one ages, it is not only the eyesight, but also the organs connected with the eyes that tend to become weak. It becomes difficult for the eye to hold the lenses for a longer period of time then. It was only super will power and a drive for perfection that made Amitabh Bachchan sport those lenses for hours.'
However, it took almost fifty sittings for Big B with his family eye surgeon Dr Himanshu Mehta to get perfectly fitting and comfortable soft contact lenses for his eyes. Dr Mehta tried very diligently with the superstar in selecting the right type for the Big B, as in the old age wearing soft contact lenses was a lengthy process and needed a lot of skill. Before going to the shooting site, Amitabh Bachchan had to go to Dr Himanshu Mehta's clinic and put on the lenses with his help and only then he could wear the lenses during the long hours of shooting.
It may be recalled that Amitabh Bachchan is playing the character of Gabbar Singh in Ram Gopal Varma's remake of Ramesh Sippy's Sholay. Though due to copyright problems and a case in the court, Ramu has changed the name of his film to Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag, but the spirit and the characters of the film remain almost the same as in the original one.
For instance, in Ramu's film Gabbar's name (being played by Bachchan) has become Ajgar Singh and instead of a village dacoit, he will be based in a city. In the same way, the character of Veeru (earlier played by Dharmendra) will be present, but this time it will be played by Ajay Devgan. Basanti will also be there in the film, but her name has now changed to Ghungru. This role was played by dream girl Hema Malini in the original, but now it is being essayed by the hot sexy babe of bollywood Nisha Kothari. And this time Basanti will not be on her tanga but will drive an auto rickshaw.
Hm…..hm…..seems.......Ramu and Big B do not want to leave any stone unturned in making this Gabbar.........sorry….Ajgar Singh more popular than in the Sippy's Sholay, no?? …but the million dollar question is will it succeed in matching the magic of the original??........kya bolta hai Sambha??
