For Kavita Barjatya, it is payback time as she takes her first steps in the cut-throat world of television media, writes Sapna S Hiremath.

Looks like anything related to camera, direction or production is in their genes. Their home banner Rajshri Productions has entertained the audience with its family dramas and created a niche in the Indian cinema. Now they are out to make yet another mark in the television media. But this time it is not Suraj Barjatya, but his little sister Kavita Barjatya.

Rajshri Productions has come out with the TV soap 'Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki', a family saga, launched on SaharaOne on May 30 in the 9.00 to 9.30 pm slot. The serial will be telecast from Monday to Thursday. In a telephonic interview with Deccan Herald, this 27-year-old daughter of Kamal Kumar Barjatya, (Suraj's first cousin), Kavita feels that entering this media was the means to realise her skills and creativity. "I always wanted to given in my bit to our production company. It was like payback time and to make my grandfather Tarachandji's dream into a reality," she avers.

'Paying Guest', a 26 episode serial was the first one that kicked-off under the Rajshri banner in 1984. Woh Rehne Waali... is their second venture.

creators of greatest hits in Bollywood which drive home the Indian tradition and values, their movies like Maine Pyar Kiya and Hum Aapke Hain Koun had left the audience spellbound.

Says Kavita, "any content that is generated from Rajshri has to be about culture, family and values. We also stay in a joint family."

"Earlier TV was a difficult medium to deal with and movies were more in demand. But now in the growing media, 26 per cent is films and a major chunk of 55 per cent is television. Our movies have always highlighted the middle class," says Kavita.

Woh Rehne Waali...'s story revolves around the protagonist Rani (Reena Kapoor) who is the youngest among the four and the most pampered child of them all. Her father, a rich businessman, Yashwardhan Mittal (Alok Nath) suffers losses and there is suddenly a 'U' turn in her life. And then begins the story of 'woh rahne waali mehlon ki'. "It is about knowing how 'normal' people live — eating dal and chawal, going to a provision shop and buying things, which many rich women generally do not do. The characters are so lovable that you can actually relate to them," says Kavita.

A graduate from Sydenham College with distinction, Kavita also assisted Suraj Barjatya with his film 'Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon'. Speaking about her experience in the television media she says, TV has to be louder as we have to make an effort to catch the attention of all the members of the family. That is not needed in films as the theatre creates such an atmosphere, she adds.

She has her fingers crossed and now it is for the audience to decide if this junior Barjatya makes it big on the small screen.
