Abhishek Bachchan enjoying married life and working with father

As one half of a Bollywood golden couple with Aishwarya Rai , Abhishek Bachchan has become almost as famous as his screen legend father Amitabh Bachchan .

But Abhishek says he still enjoys working with the man voted greatest star of the millennium in a 1999 BBC poll, while admitting that it is 'hard work'.

"It's hard work to start off with but a very enjoyable experience," Abhishek said, of starring with his father, as he did at last week's International Indian Film Festival Awards (IIFAs) in Yorkshire, northern England.

"It's not daunting any more, it's a lot of fun because we get to spend time together, which we rarely do because of our commitments. It's a lot of fun to get these opportunities to work with him, he's great fun to work with, he's a wonderful co-artist and an institution so you get to learn a lot as well."

Abhishek was speaking as he promoted his new film Jhoom Barabar Jhoom released worldwide on Friday and also starring Bobby Deol , Preity Zinta and Lara Dutta .

The movie is about two British Asian strangers who meet at a London train station while waiting for their respective partners and develop an attraction to one another.

Abhishek declined to speak in depth about his personal life, but asked how he was enjoyed marriage, he responded: "I'm loving it, it's wonderful."

Abhishek also confirmed that Ash was taking the famous Bachchan name, saying: "Isn't that what happens when you get married?"

Post Abhishek Bachchan's marriage to Aishwarya Rai, it seems papa Amitabh wants to stay away from his daughter-in-law's former boyfriends. So at the recently concluded IIFA Awards, he kept a safe distance from Salman Khan. Both actors were scheduled to attend the premiere of Shyam Bajaj's The Train, but when the Big B got to know about Sallu's presence, he duly gave the event a miss.
"Shyam Bajaj invited Salman as he has signed the actor for his forthcoming venture. Needless to say, the crowd went crazy when Salman arrived and he even spoke to the media about the film after it was over. People also waited for Amitabh to show up, but were disappointed. Of course, he was courteous enough to send Shyam a message expressing his regret. It was evident he wanted to avoid media attention and photo-ops with Salman," says our source

Amitabh Bachchan requests makeover for his wax replica at Madame Tussauds

The Bollywood superstar, one of four Indians honored with a wax replica at London's Madame Tussauds, has requested a change of wardrobe and hairdo for his replica.

Bachchan's current replica is attired in a designer outfit by Abu Jaani and Sandeep Khosla.

The superstar, who in 2000 became the first Indian movie actor to find a place at Madame Tussaud's London, recently visited the museum to take another look at his wax dummy, reports the TOI,

"Amitabh Bachchan is a phenomenon and that is why we made him a part of Madame Tussauds. He visited us recently and wanted an updated wax figure because he now sports a different look and wardrobe," says Ben Lovett, spokesperson of Madame Tussauds

Amitabh's 7 year old replica at the museum looks a lot younger than the actor now and the museum is willing to go with the request. However, it will take around four months to create a new replica for which Amitabh will need to pose for around 5 hours.

Explaining the rationale behind the inclusion of four Indians at the museum Ben Lovett said, "We waxed the Mahatma because he impacted the world history, Big B came in because of his persona, Ash for her worldwide popularity and Shah Rukh Khan because we received thousands of fan requests."

"For us, making Ash's wax figure was the most difficult as she is flawless," he added.

Big B plays a real life genie!

Though Ramesh and Rohan Sippy have backed out of a commitment to produce Sujoy Ghosh's lavish spectacle Aladdin , in which Amitabh Bachchan plays the genie, the director is unflustered as the Big B has promised him his support.

"I've nothing to fear as long as god is on my side. And by god I mean Mr. Bachchan. He's genuinely proved to be a genie in my career. He's with me through this project, and so is the rest of my cast and crew," Ghosh, who made the successful musical comedy J hankaar Beats , told said.

"If you've the support of those who matter, it hardly matters if certain setbacks occur. Life isn't always fair. So what?"

Big B, known to be very close friends with the Sippys, not just through his own association with Ramesh in Sholay and other films, but also through Abhishek's friendship with Rohan, has decided not to let his personal relations colour his professional judgement.

"Sujoy is young, ambitious and totally mad. He has dreams," said Amitabh.

Ghosh has decided to produce Aladdin himself.

"Why not? I've the confidence. And I've the team behind me. So, yes, I'm producing Aladdin on my own."

As for the Sippys, they remain tight-lipped.

After some prompting Rohan said, "Since we're in the process of redefining our arrangements with Sujoy it wouldn't be appropriate to comment at this time."

But the larger picture seems slightly unprofessional.

It appears that the Sippys pulled the plug on Ghosh's spectacle to pump up the Nikhil Advani-directed Akshay Kumar action film that they're producing.

Bachchan's Tour causing a frenzy

Amitabh Bachchan, his son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai will star together for the first time on 'The Unforgettable Tour' which kicks off in April 2008 and will stop off in 18 countries.

Big B, who dreamt up the tour, told a Press conference at the International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFAs) in Leeds, northern England, that Indian expatriates would be particularly keen to attend.

"'The Unforgettable Tour' is our way of thanking our fans and awarding them with power-packed joint performances from the superstars of Indian cinema, thereby offering our audiences an experience to witness and relive the magic of Indian cinema in lands as far away as Switzerland, UK, the Middle East, South Africa and USA amongst others," he added.

But Viraf Sarkari, director of Wizcraft, the firm marketing the event, added that the show — branded 'Indian cinema's biggest world tour ever' — would try and reach those without Indian roots as well.

"Today the interest in Indian cinema and Indian music, Indian culture, it goes far beyond just Indian community living in different parts of the world," he told.

"There are a lot of foreigners who are very, very keen on seeing Indian films and listening to Indian music and dancing to Indian music."

The tour includes dates in Europe, North America, Australia, New Zealand, Egypt, Morocco, South Africa, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Dubai and Bahrain and will also be televised.

Bachchans not Welcome here
The Bachchansclan kept most of the Bollywood at bay Abhiash wedding and now they are being paid in the same coin.

According to a leading daily, Shilpa Shetty's recent birthday bash in London attracted just about everyone from Bollywood who was in London for the IIFA Awards, including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and the omni present Karan Johar. Significantly the Bachchans were not invited.

Similar was the case when Salman Khan held a special screening of his international film Marigold at the Courthouse Hotel in London. The invitees, according to the Mumbai Mirror, included Karan Johar, Gauri Khan (Shah Rukh Khan was away), Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Shilpa Shetty and Bobby and Tanya Deol.

The Bachchans, who were holidaying in London at the time, were omitted.

In the film Marigold Salman plays the role of a dance master who coaches a B-grade blonde actress for a desi film.

Following the screening Salman invited the guests to an impromptu party at the hotel. After everyone had finished complimenting Salman on his performance in the film the talk veered to film production and Banners.

It appears that Salman with this extended family is keen to create his own camp to counter the banding together of other filmmakers and stars. In other words, soon there will emerge brands other than the Bachchans to keep the playing field level.

"If I am a king, Amitabh is an emperor" – Rajnikanth

A popular television channel recently aired an opinion poll on who's the popular star – Amitabh Bachchan or Rajnikanth? A majority of the voters favored Rajnikanth.

However Rajnikanth was quick to react. The Super Star of Tamil Cinema, whose Sivaji has witnessed a phenomenal opening all around the globe, has openly stated that he is no comparison to Amitabh Bachahan.

"I admire Amitabh and I am his ardent fan. No way, I can be compared to the Big B", he says and adds, "If I am a king then Amitabh is an emperor".

Rajnikanth took a dig at the media for comparing him with Big B.

Sivaji has witnessed bumper opening not just in Tamilnadu but also in neighbouring Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. In abroad, it has matched the collections of several blockbuster Hindi movies in the recent past.

There were tears, laughter, winners, nostalgia and a couple of social messages, but the grand highlights (as always) at the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards on June 9 were the performances.
Of those, there was an array — from a wildly entertaining finale by Salman Khan and Govinda, to Abhishek having his father Amitabh Bachchan joining him in Jhoom Barabar Jhoom as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan enthusiastically clapped. There was Akshay Kumar popping up in the energised audience to groove to bhangra disco beats, as well as Saif Ali Khan moving to Dhoom:2's title track, and Bipasha Basu sashaying to her signature tune Beedi Jalaile.
Shetty rocked
Shiamak Davar's choreography was outstanding and the sets were imaginatively changed per act. Yet, it was Shilpa Shetty who stole the beat from the competition —she danced to Crazy Kiya Re, Aaj Ki Raat and It's Rocking. Clad in a white bodysuit and joined by Davar towards the end, she simply rocked!
With the awards, Rang De Basanti predictably walked away with most of the technical awards as well as Best Film, but Rajkumar Hirani won the Best Director for Lage Raho Munnabhai. Hrithik Roshan as Krrish nabbed Best Actor, Rani Mukerji won for Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, while supporting awards went to Arshad Warsi (Lage Raho..) and Soha Ali Khan (Rang De Basanti). Saif Ali Khan took the Actor in a Negative Role as Omkara's Langda Tyagi, while Tusshar Kapoor won for his comic role in Golmaal.
As usual, newlyweds Abhishek and Aishwarya were in the spotlight as they gave the final award of the night — Ash also won the Idea Glamour Woman of the Year and Hrithik nabbed it in the male category. The crowds, thousands of them packed into the Sheffield stadium, went wild as the names were announced. In fact, the audience was hugely appreciative, right up to the end of the rather dragged-out five-hour event. This time, IIFA also dedicated segments to social causes — Amitabh Bachchan warned of global warming through the film Global Cool, and special guest actor Colin Firth spoke of Oxfam.
Yet the night's most emotional moment came as Dharmendra stepped up to take the Lifetime Achievement Award from his old friend Amitabh Bachchan. Sons Sunny and Bobby Deol came over to pay tributes and a choked-up Bobby broke down while he said, "Main yahan hoon mere papa ke wajah se."
It wrapped up the night appropriately, with an emotional salute to films and its achievers.
The IIFA awards will be telecast on Star Plus on June 17, 8 pm onwards.
