Star Parivaar Awards is back

It's that time of the year again when the sun's shining bright and summer's set in, It's that time when you not only spend time with your family but when you felicitate them for their hard work throughout all of last year. And what better way to do that than with Star Plus' very own award ceremony of the year, The Colgate Star Parivaar Awards.

It is undoubtedly the best way to acknowledge and appreciate the brilliance and commitment of each and every member of the Star Parivaar. Beginning April 27th, Star Plus brings you The much awaited telly awards celebrating 5yrs of its existence in a totally unique manner with the theme of a Musical Broadway.

Colgate Star Parivaar Awards will be awarding those members of its family that have won the audiences hearts over the past 5 years. The awards have been divided into the Hall of fame categories and popular categories. The hall of fame categories will comprise of all those faces that have been a part of the channel in the past. And what's more the viewers like always will get a chance to choose their best and favorite 'sadasyas' characters who are nominated from amongst the 23 different categories.

Prominently known for its uniqueness, the concept of the award is to acknowledge not just the actor, but more so The character. This award thus measures the popularity, the actor brings to the character. The awards for this year will be divided into 23 different categories, tThe Colgate Star Parivaar Awards is all set to felicitate the ones you choose, so go ahead and select your favourite characters be it buzurg, chhota bachcha, naya sadasya, maa-pita, beti-beta, bhai-behen, bhabhi-devar, devrani-jethani, pati-patni, saas-bahu, saut… and many more.

So gear up for the celebrations and festivities that surround this mega event with the Nomination Special on April 27, followed by The Hum Kissi Se Kam Nahin on May 11, Red Carpet on May 19 and The Main Event on May 20 and brace yourselves to get blown away by one magical evening.

Where does Renuka fit in Star Parivaar?

Even though Renuka Shahane is now the face of Sony in Jeete Hai Jiske Liiye, she is a contender for the Star Parivaar Awards 2007!

If this looks a bit strange, it is because this year's gala is celebrating actors and shows on the channel of the past five years — Renuka finds mention because of her performance in Asha Parekh's Kora Kagaz! As this is the fifth edition of the awards, the channel is celebrating a high-five.

The event will be held in May at south Mumbai's National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA).

According to Harsh Rohatgi, GM (content and communications), Star, "The Star Parivaar awards celebrates characters and not actors.

We have all the well-known names from the shows of the past years for this edition of the awards."

Past v/s present

Star Parivaar provides a platform for the viewers to vote for their favourite characters. So the nominations are for the best bahu, best pati, best beti, best saas.

Apart from these popular categories, there is also for the first time, a Hall of Fame, which will also be decided by the Star viewers.

This category includes Smriti Z Iraani, Sakshi Tanwar, Dolly Sohi who will be competing with actors from Star's earlier soaps like Neena Gupta (Saans), Renuka Shahane (Kora Kagaz) and Aroona Irani (Des Mein Nikkla Hoga Chand).

There are also special awards for members of soap families who have been with the audience over five years.

The awards gala has a Musical Broadway as its theme. Expected to perform are the Saans couple Neena Gupta-Kanwaljeet, Kiran Kumar-Aroona Irani to young couples like KT-Lakshya and Prachi-Neev besides Prerna.

The event telecast on Star Plus, has popular characters also hosting the event. There is also a red carpet and several pre and post event bashes of the Parivaar awards.
