Lara to quit international cricket

April 19, 2007

West Indies captain Brian Lara has announced his retirement from international cricket. "I have told my board and my players about it,", he said at the fag end of the press conference following the hosts' first win in the Super Eights in Barbados.

Lara had earlier announced that Saturday's match against England would be his last one-day game. "This Saturday will be my last match in international cricket," he confirmed after his team's 99-run win over Bangladesh on Thursday.

In a remarkable career spanning 16 years, Lara has played 131 Tests and 298 ODIs. He has scored 11,953 Test runs at an average of 52.88. In ODIs he has scored 10,387 runs at an average of 40.57.

This is such a sad moment for all cricket fans and ofcourse each West Indian..

When good players like Lara and Inzamaum end their career in such a note....Well Inzamaum is still in for TestI think it was the amount of  unfair critism that forced these players..

Lara is one fo the greatest players ever in Cricket History..HE surely is one of the BEST!!!!!!!We'll surely miss you.

dats true...I really enjoyd watching him played some of those terrific shots at the oval..We all knew that he was giving up ODIS.. ..but now in the last game og WC..HE will be playing 299th Odi....its sad that he couldnt make it to the 300th (semi final)..What really shocked us is his retiring of Test cricket.😭.Many people thought he would carry on his test career..Hes certainly the bestπŸ‘.I enjoyed watching you each and everytime!! Thank you for evrything ..Your contribution towards the Wi cricket was superb (17 years)once agin CONGRATSπŸ‘ and we'll all miss you😭
