Whoever thought that the story ended๐Ÿ˜†

The new rules put down by the BCCI at the Working Committee meeting on Saturday has not gone down too well with some sponsors. The BCCI came out with a ruling that players could only sign up for three brand endorsements. Now, the sponsors themselves have come out with a statement that they are unwilling to accept the ruling

Percept Communications that manages endorsement deals of most of the Indian cricketers, has come out saying that they are not too pleased with the new restrictions that BCCI has placed on the players regarding the endorsements.

The CEO Shailendra Singh told CNN-IBN on Sunday that they will bring the players together and may even consider legal options against the Board if necessary.

"It's not actually a move against the BCCI. Percept's approach in this is that we represent a lot of clients and of course, some of the cricketers too. And the interest here on Percept's behalf is to set up a united front, consolidate and represent the sponsor's and the player's interest, because somewhere down the line, the focus of interest is being lost," Singh said.

"I think the move to restrict the player's endorsements is a regressive move. The focus needs to be on the money that comes into cricket and who's going to be answerable to that?" he added.

Singh also demanded a review of the deals the BCCI is involved with, suggesting that the Board's incomes should also be looked into and be accountable.

"In our opinion, the focus should have been more so on cricket per say because the brand cricket has lost its credibility in this entire experience after the World Cup. The focus is being moved on to the players and I think restricting the money into the players' kitty is not a move whereby the cricket itself will improve."

Now, isn't this funny......Anyways, please present your views on this???๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Players' no to new BCCI contracts

Kolkata: The Indian cricketers are all set to take on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on the contracts issue with reports emerging that the players are unwilling to sign the new contracts that have been already handed to them.

The players have refused to sign new contracts after the BCCI linked payment with performance on the field. The BCCI has also put a limit on the number of endorsements the players can do.

A BCCI official has told CNN-IBN that the players still have reservations about the new contracts and the negotiations will take place after the Bangladesh tour.

In fact no player have been paid any money - either the match fee or the retainer-ship fee - since the old contract expired in September 2006 and most importantly the players are unwilling to sign the new contracts.

They want the BCCI to revise the contracts and to resolve the logjam fresh negotiations will take place after the Bangladesh tour and all the payments will be cleared after that. The revised contracts will include the new match fee and bonus structure.

Speaking to CNN-IBN, BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah said: "If the players do not sign the contract the Board will sort it out after the Bangladesh tour."

When asked if the players had decided not to sign the contact in its present form, Shah said: "I have no information on this. I am going to Kolkata day after tomorrow, and if the players have any reservations, they will let me know. Actually the Working Committee has decided that it is not retainer-ship, but gradation, and that was the gradation amount on retainer-ship. Contracts have been offered to every player and Rs five lakh is just a retainer-ship. Now in future, each player, when selected for an international tour will have to sign a contract."

Following the World Cup debacle in the West Indies where India failed to progress beyond the group stages losing to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, the BCCI scrapped the graded contracts system and even limited the number of endorsements to three that a player could do

If they don't want to sign contracts then send them home. The doodhwalas, chaiwalas and janitors working near practise sessions of our Cricket team will do better anyways. They can play and endorse their Doodh, Chai and Broom.
